Weeding Sucks...

So I admit, I let my weeds go a little this year. I'm paying for it now. It took me an hour just to rough weed the herb garden. I still have to go in and hand-pick the little grass-like weeds growing between my dill rows and under my other plants. One consolation- in that mess I discovered that my Genovese Basil and Thyme did come up!

I started to rough weed the big garden with a hoe, but the "bees" (European paper wasps, actually) started chasing me- apparently they've built yet another nest under my bedroom shutter... I've got no use for non-pollinating "bees" and I sure don't want to be anywhere near them so here I am inside again. I got about 1/3 rough weeded so I don't feel so bad.

There are also tons of Cotton Thistle trying to grow in our landscaping. It wouldn't be as bad if they weren't pickery. We've decided that for next year, we're going to break down and buy plastic landscaping sheets and just put that down, followed by more mulch. The hard part will be getting my hostas, day lillies and clematis safely up and back in while we lay it. Either that or VERY carefully cut around them... We will see, but something has to be done.
