Title: The Ring
Ship: Buffy/Angel
The fog, blocking her view, his figure only silhoetted against the dark, she felt a sudden pang at her heart. It was indescribable. She had never felt this way in her whole life. Standing there, their eyes locked only for a few seconds before they were torn, unable to look on. Tears painted her cheeks, as so did his. She had never seen him cry. This was for the best though; or so how she forced her heart to believe. But it wasn't there. It wasn't in this choice he had made. If she could, she would change his mind. If she could, she would run back to him, throwing herself into his arms and never letting him go. But she can't. Her feet seem to be molded into place as they stand on the paved street. Unable to move, unable to breathe, she just watches. She watches her love walk away. She watches how slowly he turns, as if he's afraid she'll be gone when he looks back. And she is.
He quietly looks back to where she stood, and all he sees there, lying on the ground, is her ring. Gently picking it up, holding it between his fingers, he could still feel the warmth from her skin. How only seconds ago, it had been graced upon her finger. His eyes, suddenly were fixed on a smaller detail. One he had not noticed right away. For on the smooth surface of the silver heart, there was the faintist but still visible, crack. His eyes welled up with tears as the realization hit his heart with a crash. And if his heart could've beated, it would've stopped right then and there.

Her cries would have been heard for miles, if it was possible. Her heart didn't even feel like it was beating. She wasn't even sure if it was. Unconsciously, her finger moved to touch her ring. To feel its smoothness, to touch the heart that was no longer hers. But suddenly, she is aware of her heart racing deep within her chest. The ring wasn't there. It must've slipped out of her hands as she had been holding it, standing there, looking at him. Her mind hadn't even been focused enough to realize that it was no longer there. Her eyes sparkle with tears as she cries out.
"No!"
She heard her own voice echo back at her and she had never felt so alone, so empty, so lost. She somehow found the strength to get herself up and in a flash, she was running. Running for dear life. Tears streamed down her already damp face and her hair threw itself out of its ponytail. She didn't care though. All she wanted was her ring back, the only memory of him she had left.
When she reached the spot in the road, she frantically looked around. Everyone had gone and the street lights were slowly going out. God. How long had it been?
As she stood there, the darkness her only company, she felt the all too familiar sense of...him. She wondered if it was just his scent lingering cruely there, but no. For he was too standing not too far away, down the road a ways. She began walking in that direction, not even knowing what she was doing. Then, she saw it. The faint, siloetted figure standing in the fog. Another tear fell, as the fog cleared almost instantly. They didn't do anything. No smiles, no words, nothing. Their eyes permanently locked on each other, their footsteps echoing in the night. Once they were not even a foot away from one another, he slowly moved his hand to hers and the next thing she knew, she felt somethng cold and smooth. Looking down into her hand, there it was. She almost cried she was so happy. She knew she would cry anyway, but looking up into his eyes, she just smiled.
He saw the glint in her eyes and he moved his hand to the side of her face.
"Don't cry," were his words.
She tried to smile as a tear fell from her eye. He wiped it away with his thumb and smiled.
They didn't have to say anything. Their silence spoke enough for them. They took one last look at each other as she slipped the ring back onto her finger. His eyes were glossy and on the verge of tears, as so were hers. She leaned up and lightly kissed him. He closed his eyes just as a tear fell onto her lips. She just looked at him.
Then she said the words she never thought she'd have to say to him...again.
"Goodbye Angel."
The words made her heart sting and she literally felt it drop down in her chest.
She was the first to turn away this time. But as she was about to walk away, he grabbed her hand again, turning her back towards him. Their shiny stares at each other lasted longer this time. That was when it was decided. They couldn't do this. They were inseperable. They were crazy about each other.
He pulled her to him and she just cried. He rubbed her back and shushed her. They stood like that for a long time. And if morning came before they were gone, he'd be willing to die there, in her arms.
