"This is the Appian Way. The most famous road that leads to Rome, as all roads lead to Rome." Quo Vadis?
"This is the Appian Way. The most famous road that leads to Rome, as all roads lead to Rome."
Buffy tried to stop the yawn that was threatening to erupt as Giles went through the slides. She knew that they needed to have a couple of fake hers running around, but she never go the why. There would always be a target on her back and it wasn't like there weren't hundreds more to take her place if she did get killed. Not that Buffy wanted to die any time soon, but the odds were it would happen… again.
Giles voice continued to talk about his trip to Italy. It still made her cranky that she didn't get to go. Okay, yeah hard to be stealth girl if there are two of you running around Rome but come on. Italian leather, Italian men, handmade shoes. She had the crap end of the deal.
The light on the screen became blinding for a minute after the last slide was shown. Buffy squinted her eyes until they adjusted to the new light. "Wow, thanks Giles." She was proud of herself for keeping the sarcasm out of her voice. Go her! "Sounds like you had a good trip." Okay, she couldn't quite keep the wistful tone out that time.
"Yes, it was quite lovely and educational." Giles flicked on the lights in the room as he turned off the projector. "Which reminds me, something arrived for you today from Italy."
Buffy bit back a groan at the thought of more stuff she had to look through. She stood up from her chair and made her way over to Giles. "What's up, Giles?"
Giles bit back a smile, his face impassive when he reached down for the box. "I regret it wasn't ready in time when I had to leave Rome so I had it shipped here for you." He held out the gift.
Buffy's squee was probably heard back in Sunnydale when she opened the lid to reveal the pair of Italian hand made shoes. Cute shoes. Dancing shoes. Oh she was so going dancing in these cute shoes like immediately. Or as soon as she changed into the cute minidress that would look perfect with them. "Oh my god, Giles! Have I told you lately that you're my favorite Watcher?" She practically beamed at him.
"No, I don't believe you mentioned it since the time I let you switch patrol duty with one of the Slayers."
Oh.. that reminded her. "Uh, Giles…" Buffy trailed off with a smile.
"Right. Go on. I'm sure Elizabeth won't mind taking patrol tonight."
"Thanks! You're the best." It was called over her shoulder as she quickly left the room.
