Hrmn. Existential question.

Why are lies, and the results there-of, so hilarious? Piles of deciet, and all that junk, so bloody funny?

(Nothing terribly angst-filled, mind you, just movies like Shark Tale, or anything else where the main comedic point is some big lie... they always kinda disturb me, rather than amuse, really. )

They're funny because a lie, especially to a large group of people, immediately becomes a systemic tree of lies as the liar tries to make sure the original lie is not uncovered as the deception that it is. Hilarity ensues, I think.

Personally, though, I find that entire plotline overused and contrived.

Because it's supposed to show that lying never works out, when everyone (Even the kiddies) know that it works all the time in real life, and thus is a BS thing.

Like watching violence in a movie. You know it's fake, so it's entertaining.

Well, I believe the humor is supposed to be found in how extreme and absurd one's lies become to cover up the first one, and in some cases how coincidences come in to make the situation even worse. It is a storyline that rarely works, but some instances (John Cleese in any episode of the show "Fawlty Towers" did a great job at this) it can be done right. Not often, though...
