Mister Prewett. A mix of canon and my own ideas, so take is as opinion -- you may disagree with it!
1. Like most Death Eaters (or former Death Eaters), with particular exception to Severus, Lucius is not able to cast an effective Patronus.
2. While he and Draco have some similarities, with the latter aspiring to the former in some ways, Lucius and his own father, Abraxas, actually had little in common. He took after his mother in his vanity and lavish tastes, with Abraxas a harsher and rougher spirit who was an infamously deplorable dark wizard, somewhat prone to sickness and ailment, to the point that when Lucius got older, he was a little embarrassed of his father, if secretly so. But Lucius spent much of his young life trying to live up to expectations by attaining good grades and better allies, but all Abraxas really cared about was that Lucius demonstrate capability with his inheritance, marry a good pureblood witch and learn the dark arts as primarily taught by him. He inherited from Abraxas his affinity for dark magic and bone-deep bigotry.
3. The snake-headed walking stick he carries with him is not a family heirloom, but an affectation he picked up in adulthood that he imagined could be one. Because of the ever-present wand inside of it, the cane itself has some rudimentary magical properties, allowing Lucius to block spells with the sheath while casting with his wand, a trick he uses often in duelling. It will, eventually, go to Draco.
4. Ostentatious dress is ostentatious. It stems from desiring to show as much of his wealth as physically possible, as if monetary value counts towards you being anyone of interest, as well as a very determinedly unMuggle sense of fashion, preferring traditional wizard fashions forever.
5. He really is a terrible person. But you knew that.
6. But he loves his wife and his son. He's just also really fucking English.
7. After Lucius was forced to relinquish his wand to Lord Voldemort, it failed to perform when the Dark Lord used it in an attempt to murder Harry Potter. This was because it remained loyal to the Malfoy family and Lucius in particular, whose loyalties had already started to rot away from the ill treatment they were suffering.
8. In his Hogwarts days, Lucius was popular amongst his Slytherin house, mostly due to the prestige of his name and wealth, as well as a degree of charisma and amazing hair. He lived up to the quintessential Slytherin traits, including an avid rivalry against Gryffindor and all but ignoring Ravenpuff and Huffleclaw or whoever save for a spot of half-blood and mudblood teasing. On the flipside, he tended to step in when Gryffindors gave it to Slytherins in return -- one case being that of Severus Snape and the Marauders. Usually done verbally or simply behind the scenes, because Lucius didn't exactly have the bravery to really square off against school bullies, but at least in this case, they were all younger than he by a few years, and he could abuse Prefect status as necessary.
More to come as it occurs to me.
