This is really a lovely story. Such a wonderful story about what is essentially a OTP between Merlin and Arthur but one where the wrong step can have unfortunate consequences. I liked that even with all his power and knowledge, Merlin has no guarantees for happiness or for success with Arthur.
The relative lack of evil minions was oddly fascinating, I think it made the character development better because it was just about the need for them to live up to their potentials. How completely wonderful that was to read, and how cool that Morgana wasn't evil! That was great, really really great.
Qwen was a charming personality here and not overly sticky with cloying sweetness. She was quite balanced and human and a perfect sort for Merlin to have as a friend.
Speaking of balanced, good job on Uther. Wow, so great, so smart that you made him human and not a jerk as simply a plot mover. I could see this guy, as in he was a lot like powerful people in real life. Often times they want to do good, but making it happen, finding the means to get things done without too much compromise, these are things that are difficult to manage. Uther, for all that he's not a warm fuzzy guy here is actually quite a formidable politician and it was great to see him have to work for his power rather than to simply be a king.
I really enjoyed this, it was recced to me by a buddy of mine and though Merlin isn't my main goto fandom this was a smashing story.
