[Times] The Poetry that Time Forgot

Jan 21, 2006 23:24

I'm visiting home tonight -- home as in my parents' house, rather than the apartment. We just got back half an hour ago from seeing the Chelsea House Orchestra perform. Man, are they ever good! I never saw a student orchestra with guitar solos before tonight. Going to have to pick up one or more of their CDs.

Anyway, the real reason I'm posting is that I wanted to share something I just rediscovered tonight. There's an antiquish storage box here in the guest room (the logo on it reads "GLOVE" BRAND RUBBERS, teehee), and I opened it up to get the instruction booklet for the alarm clock here. And down underneath some really old photos, I found two old "younger authors" books from back when I was in grade school! "Marshall Younger Authors, 1992-93", and "Madison's Awesome Authors VI, 1994-95". And I have poems in both of them! So please permit me to open a window on the past and share some of my earliest works with you.

SNOW

Snowballs being thrown,
Snowforts being made.
Doing things alone,
Then playing a game.
Doing things the same,
Then doing it apart.
And soon we go inside
And play with my dart.

(Apparently we could only afford one dart for our dartboard? Or maybe I meant I had a Dodge Dart.)

A MIRROR

The important thing about a mirror is that it reflects you. It's made of glass,
It sits in a bathroom,
Or has a handle,
And "HOW" shows up a "WOH",
But the important thing about a mirror is that it reflects you.

5TH GRADE

("HOW" shows up as "WOH". Truly I was an observant child.)

So yeah, those may not ever make it to my poetry page. But I thought they were worth sharing. ^_^
