A Look Inside Off-Broadway’s The Submission, Starring Jonathan Groff and Rutina Wesley
Jeff Talbott’s The Submission recently made its world premiere when the comedic drama officially opened Sept. 27, following previews that began Sept. 8, at Off-Broadway’s Lucille Lortel Theatre. Here, Playbill.com has a look inside the new play, directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie.

In The Submission, Groff plays Danny Larsen, a playwright who hides under the female pen name Shaleeha G’ntamobi. When his drama about an African-American family is accepted into the nation’s preeminent theatre festival, he is faced with a multitude of difficult decisions. Wesley’s character, however, is faced with the role of a lifetime, stepping in as G’ntamobi and passing off the work as her own until the carefully devised plan seems to backfire.
The cast also includes Eddie Kaye Thomas (The Diary of Anne Frank, Bachelorette, “American Pie”) as Danny’s partner and Will Rogers (Unnatural Acts, When the Rain Stops Falling) as Danny’s best friend.
