original picture

1.i usually start by cropping the picture before doing any coloring to it
i don't crop it exactly 100x100 but bigger like 130x130 so i can be able to move it around until i find a position that i like like this one

2.after that i sharpen the base and go to edit---fade sharpen--and set it between 35%-45%

3.duplicate the base layer and set it to screen and for this icon i chose opacity 20% looks like this

4.duplicate the base layer again and set it to soft light opacity 100%

5.layer--new adjustment layer--gradient map--and pick es vintage 25 and set it to color dodge between 5%-15% depends on the picture
(you can download the gradient set from here)

6.layer--new adjustment layer--curves--from preset choose custom
Red
input:75 , output:85
looks like this
Green
input:76 , output:82
looks like this
Blue
input:129 , output:132
looks like this

7.layer--new adjustment layer--selective color (make sure you have selected relative)
Reds
C:-100, M:0, Y:+100, B:0
looks like this

Yellows
C:0, M:0, Y:-100, B:0
looks like this

Whites
C:0, M:0, Y:+21, B:0
looks like this

Neutrals
C:0, M:0, Y:-8, B:+6
looks like this

Blacks
C:0, M:0, Y:0, B:+4
looks like this

after i made this setting i went to opacity and set it to just 20%

8.duplicate the selective color and set it to screen 20%
looks like this

9. i took this texture (i can't remember who made it so if you recognize it let me know so i can credit) and set it to color burn opacity 100%

Final result

NO PSD (sorry i don't save them cause they take a lot of disk space)
