As promised.

I told you eventually I'd post pics of sledding when it finally snowed, and well it did, but it melted real fast so there was no snow in the pics I took.

Specs of the sled:

5.5' long 2.5' wide 1/8" thick polyurethane plastic. Same stuff used on teh bottom of snow plows. It is VERY slick especially when it's damp.

4" diamiter front runner with caps

10' of 500lb breaking strength tow strap.

2 layers of carpet padding glued to the bottom of the sled so you don't slide off when you get whipped around.

Specs of the towing rig:

2005 Polaris sportsman 500 H.O.

K&N Air filter. Royal Purple Engine oil.

Home made fence basket (140lbs on the back end, we'd loved to been able to take it off but my brother was gonna do more fence work today so we had to put up with it being not as responsive to steering imputs)

Now this sled is very lively, it has no directional control aside from leaning and jerking your body around on it. If your pulling you can get the sled to run right along side you by turning sharply a little then blipping the throttle to keep pace with the sled. I have personally had that done to me at a speed of about 40 mph (according to the ATV speedo) At that rate of travel it began to foil and lifted me off the ground for a few moments.

Performing doughnuts with it attached is a surefire way to dump a person if you are not careful. I have had many bruises and small cuts from snow because I was flung so hard. (Me being the only adult that's got the constitution to ride it without a younger kid to keep the pilot in line. I openly taunt mild pullers. And when we had the smaller pulling rig (a 350CC big bear that weighted half of what that big sportsman weighs) I could get away with it since my weight would actually pull the rig around.

Now post pics I rode on it one last time, across the muddy yard.(we used a speed mover today to resurface it anyway so digging ruts wasn't going to matter.) Though it was not nearly as easy to pull I was able to slide around on it just fine. Though getting rock spray on my face isn't something I like, now I remember the real reason I stopped doing motocross lol.
