Smiles from Across the Pond or Communication at Its Finest...

After yesterday's opening salvo, I wasn't sure if I was going to take to this thing...but here I am again...

I was on my way home to crawl into a nice bottle of wine to help me forget the day's shining example of human egocentricities when my techno shackle from hell (that's a blackberry ladies and gents) gave a little gurgle to let me know I had received a missive. Turns out it was from my friend from the UK asking for some help. It seems her son is now of University age (they grow up too darn fast) and is hoping to do a safe "walkabout" through the US before settling down at University (Oxford will never be the same) life.

It brought to mind the fact just how much communication has changed so drastically in such a short time. For example, here I was on a speeding train home reading an email from across the ocean and from the aforementioned device send out a broadcast call for volunteers to help shelter and watch over this precious cargo; so by the time I got home I was able to compile a small list of possible volunteers and forward it to my friend all within a few hours of her original email.

Why this inane chatter about communication? Because while it is impressive when it works it's a PIA to explain to Instant Gratification Junkies with no basic technological skill (with the exception of hitting certain keys in a certain order to make the thing work) when it doesn't

*sigh*

usa, technology, uk, communication, trip
