>^.^< Kitty!

I have always been a cat person. Luv'em! I have had 4 over the years and they have been wonderful companions. Mary has told me I could have a kitty and even encouraged me to find one. The last several times I have gone to the shelter or a pet store I have not been able to 'connect' with any of the animals I have looked at. I believe that you should not buy one from a pet store because there are so many animals without homes, but when I did find one I fell in love with at the local shelter I was actually DENIED adoption!! Long story, but suffice to say I was not happy.

Anyway I have debated getting a cat again for sometime, but really just felt that if it is meant to be, it will happen. We don't always find our companions, sometimes they find us. And this one found me.

We were outside doing yardwork on saturday. I heard Mary scream and so I shut off the leaf blower to inquire why. She had just dug a hole to plant a shrub she bought last week. When she picked up the pot, which was right next to the house, behind it was hidden a 3 month old buff tabby kitten. I walked over to him, picked him up and asked

"Aww you poor thing! Did the scary lady frighten you when she screamed?!?"

I immediately knew I was keeping him. I did promise Mary I will keep an ear open for someone that may be looking for him, but I am not going to listen to closely. I like him. I took him to the vet yesterday. He confirmed what I knew about the age and that he is very healthy. The vet agreed I should keep him. He told me he often sees kittens for which homes could not be found so people just release them. Terrible.

I decided to name him Peanut. He absolutely took to me from the start. Maggie, Marys bishon, is not really impressed with having him around, but so far they are getting along ok. She does try to chase him out of the room sometimes because she gets jealous. One swat at Maggie with the claws and she did develop a healthy respect / fear of Peanut.
