bokonon25: i'd better revise what i think is coolI like to avoid giving music commentary. In order to function properly as Houston's indie-compass and keep our playlist fresh, all ktru dj's are required to review at least 5 cd's every semester. I may have reviewed a total of 5 since my first semester - 2 years ago. The only ( Read more... )

i disagree. i'm not saying the entire ktru library is revolutionary musical gold, but i think "sea of shit" is unecessarily harsh. for every cd, there is at least one dj who enjoyed it and i'm sure there are listeners who agree. i've gotten requests for genetic memory tracks and i'm pretty sure they would be offended by your description of their genre-of-choice. different strokes for different folks, you know?

the whole point of having dj's review cd's is so they can't complain that there's nothing they want to play. if we didn't want you to review what you liked, (a) we wouldn't allow you to preview them to begin with and (b) we'd just randomly assign 5 cd's to every dj and possibly invoke anarchy. do you think the person who put "hollaback girl" at number 35 was like, "it's a good thing i don't like this song or else my praise for it might be biased"? on the contrary, he probably had to violently fight a lot of people to get it on the list at all.

sure, there are people who recommend things for the playlist that others feel don't deserve to be there. just like there are people who claim josie and the pussycats is their favorite movie when - being a film major and all - they really should know better. the reason we have dj's is to cater to different tastes. otherwise, we'd just make everything automated, clearchannel style.

just to be fair, i did say that i know there are many people who like the stuff i call shit, which i still think is not harsh because it is my opion. my 'stroke' if you will.

of course. but just to be fair, the fact that i think it is unecessarily harsh is my stroke.
