Julie and Julia

So today was extremely hot.

Luckily, in fact magically, I had my first day off today, after working for about 9 days in a row.

So for most of the morning I slept happily, completely unaware of the murderous 35 degrees type weather that was taking over outside.

When I got up I had a great time making a smoothie and beginning my week-long food diary. I am following the Dr Gillian McKeith plan, in her book "Ultimate Health Plan". She is the lady on the TV from You Are What You Eat. I completely love her, she is too hilarious. The Scottish accent helps. Anyway, I think her plan is a sure-fire way for me to at least assess my current habits and hopefully change some.

So this week, all I need to do is record everything that passes my lips. This is how I need to fill out every entry:

1. Time of day
2. Food and beverage intake in detail to include quantities and brands if appropriate
3. How the food is prepared
4. Where and with whom the food is eaten
5. Moods/emotions

I am also going to keep a track of exactly how much water I am drinking and how much exercise I am doing each day.

I think the main benefit of keeping this diary will be that it will require me to actually think about what I am eating, because I will always have to write it down. Ha.

Oh wow, it's raining. Finally things might cool down.

Anyway, as Mum was working today I decided that I wanted to go and see a movie by myself. I have never actually done that before and was a little apprehensive, but went anyway.

It was rather strange buying the ticket, but once I got into the cinema I noticed that most people were actually alone!

I saw Julie and Julia. To my surprise, it was such a beautiful movie. I was worried that Amy Adams would make things too arthouse and weird. I have changed my mind about her. Well done, Amy. I absolutely adore Meryl Streep and she did not let me down at all. The movie had so many amazing shots of Paris, and made me want to go there again even more than I do anyway. It was a really inspiring film, just to watch Julia Child's zest for life, her passion and determination to be a brilliant cook and her warmth and love for her husband. What a great lady. I loved the fact that she always wore a string of pearls around her neck. I have always, always loved pearls, and continue to promise myself that one day I'll own a string of Chanel ones. I think I'll start saving. =]

Anyway, I think I am going to look into buying Julia's cookbook, and learn some new things about French cooking. I have never been the biggest fan of French food, but I think that's because I've never gone to the right places to eat it.

Mum and I had a delicious, light salad dinner with lentils and sat down to watch a Miss Marple mystery. This one had Joanna Lumley in it and was called "Body in the Library".The one we watched last night was called "4.50 From Paddington", and I loved it! It had John Hannah (from Four Weddings and a Funeral) and Pam Ferris (from Rosemary and Thyme).

Mum and I also moved a chest of drawers we spray painted white yesterday into my room. Finally somewhere I can put all my clothes!

Bon nuit xxx
