Back home
Surgery went well and I'm home now.
Dr. Montgomery cut out the shredded part of the meniscus, smoothed out part of the thigh bone that had gotten worn and rough, and found some 'tissue' above my knee that shouldn't be there and removed it. My leg is wrapped, and has a great big ice sleeve around it. I also got to meet with a physical terrorist to find out what my exercises are. Pretty simple. Starting tomorrow, I have to get back on my stationary bike, with no resistance, and building up to 20 minutes a day at a pace that doesn't hurt.
I was so numbed and drugged that I was practically perky for an hour or so after surgery. :)
I napped for a while when I got home, then fixed a sandwich. I hadn't eaten since 8 pm the night before, so I was HUNGRY! Oh, after I woke up in the recovery room, they gave me some water and graham crackers. I had SUCH dry mouth I could hardly swallow the graham crackers, but I was so hungry they were the best tasting thing in the world. It was a similar feeling to after I had the kids and all they would allow me was ice chips, but those were the BEST ICE CHIPS EVAH!
I'm bracing myself for when the numbing medicine wears off from my knee. It already is quite sore, but tomorrow should be the worst of it, then on to improvement.

On a related note, Erika (the boys' former nanny) has got to be the most considerate and sweetest person in the WORLD. She's like our family, and this is the first Christmas we didn't all get together. She has been writing to find a time for us to come over to their house so the four boys can play. She wanted us to come over on Saturday, but had forgotten my surgery today. When I reminded her and asked about doing it the following weekend, she said she wants to come over HERE on Saturday to see me for a few minutes, and wanted my permission to take Michael and Matthew across the street to the park for a couple of hours to get them out of my hair.
That's such a great gift! I was lucky beyond belief when I found Erika and hope she remains part of our lives forever.
