Work
Joined fulltime at www.kidthing.com this week, at a senior level position. Looking back, it's amazing to think how much has changed career wise from a decade ago. It took much debating and internal grinding to give up the freedom from being self employed I worked so hard to achieve (3 years of strategizing) of and took so much advantage of. But it's a good group and with any luck we will change the world for the better. It's really amazing working with people who are all veterans in their fields most I know very little about. It's also really weird to be in a startup company where deals with major people come so easily...where in every other startup it's been long fought battles and infrequent opportunities.
Tonight gave like a hour long presentation at a local Flash users group, just guessing about 30-40 people, on animating in Flash purely with script. Funny how it is is being an architect level, how though even trying I constantly try when giving these presentations to describe nuts and bolts, forget that for many they don't even know the difference between a phillips or standard screwdriver. It's a bit like flying at 20'000 feet, yet even when parked on the runway missing the perspective of the groundhogs.
I was up till 4am working on it, it's also relieving that I was able to create the presentation in about 5 hours, didn't rehearse it at all, and despite the length wasn't really stressed or that nervous about it. Part of my goal in speaking more is to develop better connections, the questions I get during and afterward always connect me to people I've never met before.
Geek
I recently upgraded to 6x24" monitors (1920x1600 each) damn BIOS only supports 4. Still roughly 4' by 4' of displays is pretty amazing. After rebate and shipping they were like $360 each...pretty cheap.
My beloved Touchstream seems to have finally died. With the increased exposure to multitouch though Apples Touch/AIR etc. I'm hoping that someone will revive a normal input device with it's capabilities. Else I will be forced to work on one myself.
