Geek: Scanning and Cats

So taking care of the neighbors fuzzy kids, with rain falling outside. Watching half of the excellent Firefly series (only half as the remote control doesn't work so I can only watch the first episode of a DVD), while raiding the TastyBites that said neighbor has kindly stocked up on for the purpose. It's kinda strange to have a pantry full of food I might buy for myself, but not at my house.

Managed to figure out how to get the Automatic Document feeder (ADF) on the mediocre Microtek to work somewhat, you have to hold each individual page in the stack to keep it from getting pulled in at the wrong time as it likes to pull them together like a stream of toilet paper. Thankfully Joss's writing more than makes up for the tedium of this, and it is faster than doing it by hand. Amelia (the mecurial black cat) using her built into all cats center-of-attention seeking mechanism, which is slightly faulty, decided to imitate a paperwieght on the discard pile instead of the pull from pile., so ended up with paper on her. Skittered away once the scanner started humming. Greybaby is such a sweety but a bit timid. Both of them seem to eat poorly as there was cat food vomit on the carpet first entering. I don't remember my cats doing that that often.

Tonight's Scans:
* 1987 - beginning drafting drawings, and the gravity powered sled race, my sled/car looked really neato.
* 1991 - Ms Henry's English class, I totally had a crush on her (* insert song for 'Don't Stand So Close to Me*). I wonder what happened to her? It occurs to me that she was probalby 7 years older than me, when I know many successful couples that have that much of an age difference. Surely this has happened.
* 1992 - Song lyrics, including some songs I've totally forgotten about.
* 1993 - Amway brouchures, did you know the *average* distributor makes $68/month, hardly a selling point.
* 1998 - a conference in Aruba on offshore investing, lots of unmitigated crap.

It's funny to be able to piece one's history, reviewing the scaffolding that memory has discarded. There is a logical progression to most of my interests, and a certain sense of comfort in being somewhat the same goal/values.

I have just in this section of binders most likely 500-1000 pages left, being odd sizes and various contrasts, most of these won't play nicely with they ADF. Given the time this is taking, and the huge amount left (a filing cabinet and 1/4 of a book shelf) I've debated getting just getting another more Office oriented full duplex scanner $350 and then selling it when I'm through. I should make enough off selling the music gear for this.

Home
My place (bedroom and livingroom) is currently a disaster zone, I"m half tempted to put up yellow tape and flashing warning signs, and make hardhats for toes. I'd put photographs but I'm ashamed of how much it looks like a Uhaul storage facility hit by a bulldozer at present.

Submitted written notice today (on uber fashionable parchment cause it was closest) about moving, last official day at the Santa Monica place is the 22nd of April. I'll be out earlier, this is mostly for current roomies benefit as he is still sans next place to live, and is uber busy till then. The finances has been a little stressful for him, but I feel that 35 days is a reasonable time, and to be fair it's not like I'm not under similar stresses.

Got a dolly back which I thought was stolen, will make the move easier. Turns out that the maintenance guys were using it, thinking it was abandoned.

Made hot almond milk with chocolate, I actually like it better than conventional hot chocolate. Also tried the coconut cream concentrate, which makes a nice horchata.

A wayward bunch of fruit at the bottom of the fruitbowl, gave birth to a swarm of fruitflies, had to bring out the K!LL3R- ElectroVortex of Doom. To quote Spaceballls *suck* *suck* *suck*

First day as a fulltimer on my own company, feels wierd in a few different ways. Learning some new stuff about Flash audio though which is fun.

Looking for some logo cleanup and some font suggestions, looks like even on Elance things bottom out, $35/hr. People in the USA want about $50/hr, getting quotes of 2-3 hrs. I don't think it would take me more than 20 minutes to do it myself, it's not that complicated. Though finding a suitable font may take an hour. It's strange though, first time on Elance, and getting used to how it works. Some people send me samples which are essentially worthy of finished goods.

The Greyman
Over the weekend one of my tasks was to get a solution for using my Tablet PC on stage. After getting a quote for about $200 to have something machined by my roommate I set out to Guitar Center and Home Depot and hacked something together for about $30. Sadly I had to do some drilling, with an uber slow cordless drill, so each hole takes like 6 minutes. But it is exciting to have a solution in place.

Tonight discovered a new song in the same genre as Cello. What's amusing to me is how many songs come out of the same fount of inspiration, so I'll be thinking it's a new unique song then all of a sudden it's aparent to me how easy it would bridge to an exisiting song.
