I have a feeling that Neela will be one of those people who will stand by Ray about anything.

She was at that point in canon when she was about to get really stubbornly determined about what she wanted. Not having an easy time of it, though. Thanks for commenting, again. :)

The scene between Ray and Jubilee resonated with me very strongly. As much as I love the idea of Xavier's school, Ray is right segregating the mutants into a special school inevitably focuses them on their mutant ability (what they can do) rather than who they are. I like that you're examining that through your story.

Also, it's a bit perturbing that Xavier was so willing to use his money to smooth the waters for Ray. Helpful for his future no doubt, but still I don't get the sense that he discussed this with Ray beforehand.

Neela sounds interesting, I like her confusion and determination to handle this head on.

Yeah, the problem with creating a positive identity for a condition is that it narrows your whole life down to being that one thing. I occasionally pause and wonder if "gay" really is the major label I want attached to myself - until I remember that my sexual orientation really defines a lot of what I am and do. But that in itself has negative aspects, too. I can see how Ray, who gets a lot of delight out of the punk rock and his attitude, would not be ready to bend to an identity that has been prescribed to him ( ... )

I enjoyed this chapter too. Neela's POV is interesting. I like how nuanced her internal conflict is--how she hasn't quite reconciled herself to who and what Ray is but is struggling with all these half-formed arguments and justifications for her reaction. I like her dynamic with Abby as well.

To be fair, it wasn't the best way to learn about Ray's mutation for Neela. She probably would have dealt better if he'd have told her one lonely night during a shared bottle of beer. But alas, he didn't. That would have been too easy. ;)

Again, thanks for the comments! :)
