Dear computer geeks,

Please somebody answer. Preferably with good news.

I was doing nothing of consequence when my computer shut itself down. It didn't freeze, nothing. It just shut down.

When I pushed the power switch, there were sparks. Room went dark. Janitor says behavior of the fuse indicates something had overheated. It's possible; I disabled the motherboard's alarm beep months ago, it had been malfunctioning.

Now, power button doesn't work anymore. Monitor acts like there's no computer.

Question: How likely is it that my hard drive was damaged in this? I don't care about the motherboard. I need the hard drive.
