You did all this writing and I missed it, somehow! How did you sneak two stories by me???

Anyway, this is great so far. I'm curious about Athena's obvious anger and Helo's reaction to it is both endearing and frustrating, because I get the feeling he's been kind of clueless for a while and this is most of the reason why his wife's mood is seeming such a mystery to him right now. But you do also get across a personality trait of Athena's, which is that she often withdraws into herself and refuses to connect with Helo when she gets upset about something. It must be kind of infuriating for him, even though I bet he is a bit oblivious sometimes.

Btw, I'm totally intrigued to see Gaeta/Helo conflict in the next chapter.

The confrontation with Zarek is the emotional core of this chapter, and it's really well done. I like Gaeta's assessment that Zarek's just posturing and marking his territory, because it makes sense to me that Gaeta would have figured something like that out about Zarek by now, given their time together on New Caprica. He must have watched a lot of competitive pissing going on between Baltar and Zarek down on that planet. :D

Can't wait to see more.

It also didn’t help that Zarek was speaking in a low tone of voice suited to humor a child.
Hee! I know that voice. He used it on Lee just before he blew up at him for saying Zarek couldn't be Acting President because the military wouldn't accept it. :)

Two stories? I'm confused. I only wrote this to my recollection.

I firmly believe that somewhere behind all that sensitivity Helo is hiding some stereotypic male character trades. If he were a German Earthling, he'd totally spend his weekends in front of a TV, beer in hand, watching soccer. It's why I love him, of course. I'd sit at his side. If he'd cheer for my team.

I do think Helo and Athena have a fight overdue, too. They sometimes fight on screen but we usually don't see them resolve it (like when she didn't tell Cavil was a Cylon right before New Caprica), so I've concluded that maybe that's because they don't.

Thanks for the compliments and the lovely review! :)

Also, LOL. Great icon. :D

Ah! I made a mistake. It's because I saw two stories by you on the_wireless and didn't recognize the title "Stakes" as the Chuckles story, which btw, I am reminded was awesome. In fact, I just went back and read it again! It was too much fun to resist. :D

Oh, and btw, my Muse is furiously haranguing me to outline more and more scenes for the Hotdog/Gaeta story I told you about. I even started writing a scene in the parking lot after voting, jeez! I can tell already it's going to be emo.

*shocker*

I shall be emailing you soon with something, methinks. :) How is yours going?

Neat! That makes two happy readers! (you for "Stakes" and me for your Hot Dog/Gaeta :D)

How is yours going?

Killed off the President three minutes before ;). Your post prompted me to look at the clock and find out that it's in the middle of the night. I didn't even want to start writing. But it wants to be done. I'll have something readable soon, I think.

Looking forward to your email! Don't feel compelled to answer my last. I know I ramble on. :)
