Okay, first off: they kissed~! Heee! <3

The majority of victors knew how to swim; there actually was a group who joined up during Games every year to use the opportunity of visiting the plush Capitol facilities. <- This is very interesting! I'd wondered about this in light of the 3rd Quarter Quell.

...and now some typical miscellanea from me.

1. I can't say I'm going to ever write this, but I've been thinking about it on and off for a while and I figured you might like to hear about it-

I keep seeing your 'Finnick teaching Haymitch to swim' prompt and in the version of it I've mentally toyed with, it's in some slightly rosier post-rebellion scenario (less dead victors, please). Haymitch comes out to visit Four for a while and when Finnick learns that Haymitch can't swim, he really wants to teach him ("Why not? I think you'd really enjoy it!").

Because they're friends, Haymitch caves and Finnick is a very good and thoughtful teacher. Song, Theo, and Odysseus come out to watch and offer questionable advice(/heckle Finnick a bit), until Shad and Annie come over and make them stop embarrassing Haymitch.

I imagine it's a very nice vacation.

2. "surveillance reports on fifty-something victors that hadn’t raised any red flags all year"
This just made me giddy to think about for some reason. Please enjoy some sample reports I was inspired to concoct:

March 30 - D10 - Celice, Akane: Mail-ordered designer dress arrives from Capitol. Expresses desire to wear it somewhere interesting to both Dace Liatta and Clover Kadiz. Gets dolled up. Doesn't leave Victors' Town.

March 31 - D9 - Match, Ombry: Minor domestic tiff at Match home. Ombry storms off to work shed. Locks self in shed. Cesar comes out to apologize, must effect heroic rescue by screwdriver by taking door off hinges. Making up/making out with Cesar ensues.

[surveyor off-record remark: why do I have to watch guys in their sixties get up to this stuff? anyone want to trade assignments?]

April 1 - D5 - Seff, Hamlet: No noise, no nothing from 9PM March 31 until 12PM April 1. Started getting a bit worried re: Hamlet's alcoholism. Phone rings (victor Shy Evert). Hamlet picks up. Conversation re: Hamlet's not showing up to assist with Shy's annual spring cleaning (he was sleeping, he forgot). Hamlet agrees to join other victors for cleaning. Goes back to bed.

April 2 - D3 - Ison, Kelvin: Scheduled visit to Edison Secondary Technical School. Visit routine/unremarkable. Comes home, appearing subdued. Watches television. Works on terrarium project. 9:15PM: sudden fit of temper, cause unknown. Throws things, cuts up sheets, audibly distressed. 10:17PM: breaks window, prompting arrival of Wiress Rosen on doorstep. Hides evidence of fit from Wiress. Invites her in. Makes tea. Victors share tea. Wiress leaves. No further outburst from Kelvin.

April 2 - D6 - Lowell, Poppy: Decides to paint kitchen ceiling. Purchases ladder. Invites Simeon Katz over to help. Morphling shared. Falls off ladder. Visits hospital, treated for sprained wrist. Painting project temporarily(?) abandoned.

April 3 - D1 - Alunai, Allegra: -out of jurisdiction/check other records: in Capitol for cancer treatment-

April 3 - D8 - Fields, Pal: Weekly victors' sewing circle meeting. In attendance: Pal, Woof Cambray, Chrissie Warp, Miranda Loomley (Cecelia Songket home with sick child). Much discussion of device to aid Woof's hearing. Question of acquiring said device via 3's Beetee Kirke or Ios Diode raised.

Eeee! What Lorata said!!

I mean, this is brilliant. The way you mix the perfectly mundane with "no sounds for days, he might be dead" (I'd been thinking Haymitch's surveillance person must have been thinking that a lot) And Kelvin having that episode out of nowhere, then covering it up, but the Capitol knows all. Even though they don' get it.

(this is getting me thinking on the routines of the surveillance people and how they must just record everything, then "jump to next sound" button and scroll through it before moving on to the next victor. And getting bored and not recording things because they get distracted by the pretty girl one booth over.)

I also adore your version of the swimming lessons trope. I would love the fuck out of that story. :))

Haymitch might appreciate other victors teasing him about the lessons because banter, unlike swimming, is something he knows how to do.

I figure the majority of victors can swim because everybody from One, Two and Four would know how, plus a certain amount of the others. I can see One and Two victors having no qualms about enjoying themselves in the Capitol swimming facilities while they have to be there anyway and then taking the occasional outer district victor along.

Thank you so much for the awesome comment!

Hee, thank you! I'm glad you liked it! Haymitch and Hamlet's surveillance people probably commiserate a bit ("What did your drunk do this week?"). At least there are other victors in Five who will make sure he's not dead...

Ha ha, oh, this is interesting, adding in the routines of the surveillance people to the mix! I feel like it might be fun to write more and draw some little sketches to go with them.

Aww, I'm glad you like my version of the swimming lessons trope. I might write it eventually? The D4 victor cohort would appreciate my actually writing something where they make out better during the rebellion instead of idly thinking about it.

You've got a point about Haymitch and the banter! He'd outsnark Theo, Song, and Odysseus combined (though not for lack of trying from the later two).

I figured the same re: everyone from One, Two, and Four. ...I know Hamlet enjoys swimming for fun since he fills the D5 male spot in the 75th Games for me and he was one of the faster arrivals at the Cornucopia (so I thought about the subject). It makes me wonder who I write about who would go swim in the Capital with some of the Ones and Twos. It's an interesting thought.

You're welcome! It was nice to have a pretty good comment to make. XD;
