I'm going to see the Battlestar Ballet!

I'm going to see "Prelude To War", Bear McCreary's BSG Ballet, on March 7th! And it's the premiere, too! McCreary is going to be there. I might get a chance to ask him inanely geeky music questions about BSG. :)

It wasn't easy to make it happen. I've got friends who are BSG fans, but the word "ballet" sent them running. I've got friends who would go listen to cool music with Japanese drums and funny dancing, but the words "Oh, it's about robots" sent them running. I didn't want to go on my own because I don't have a car and the train connection is crappy (I had to start up with looking the town up on a map; Hagen isn't exactly the German equivalent of Vancouver. Turns out, it's just two hours by train, and good music is easily worth two hours). Eventually though, I found a connoisseur of both fine music and robots who also has a car. My father. He's a Star Wars fan. He understands.

This is going to be so much fun. The premiere is almost sold out, and I was fortunate to get good seats. Also, the tickets for university students are amazingly cheap, which doesn't hurt.

I've been a music geek long before becoming a scifi geek, and I'm a huge fan of the Battlestar score. This is most likely the only chance I'll ever get to hear any film score on stage. It's like one part of my geekdom gets to meet the other part, and they'll shake hands and become friends. Scifi score and ballet and cool Japanese drums all at once! It doesn't get much cooler than that. :D
