Nineteen [Video/Action for Goldenrod]

[You can see the ocean from Goldenrod, you just can't travel it. But Ritsu, dressed as a woman as per the norm, is letting his little Lapras swim there, and he watches it with quiet contemplation. After a while, he turns on the video ( Read more... )

That's quite a question, with a variety of answers.

Going by technicality, being adult is being of age, depending on where you live. For my home, it was eighteen.

Going by the values held by society, it's paying your taxes, living apart of and ending your dependence upon your parents and family, getting a job and paying for the things you need on your own, getting married with a nice man or woman and furthering the human populace with them, until the day you die. Taking responsibility, following through with your words.

I don't think you can do a lot of those things in Johto... but the word 'responsibility' has been used a lot.

Actually, it's quite possible to achieve most of those things here, from everything I've heard about from the native inhabitants.

At the age of ten you're sent out on your "Pokemon Journey" alone with nothing but a Pokemon at your side. In most cases you must find a way to earn money on your own, so you may rent a room to stay in, purchase food and supplies for yourself and your Pokemon along the way. You need to take responsibility not only for yourself but your Pokemon as well. There are families and children living here, so marriage and reproduction are certainly still part of life here.

Of course, being an adult could have a completely different meaning in Johto as well. I wouldn't be surprised.

That makes it sound like some things are truly universal... Yes, I really ought to take better care of my Pokemon better...

Many things are likely universal, provided the species, creatures and cultures involved possess the same sets of intelligence, morals and physical capabilities as one another. Things may be done differently, yet the basis of actions taken are likely still the same. Even Pokemon, I've noticed, share some similarities between their habits and decisions and our own.

And perhaps. I've never met you or your Pokemon, so I have no opinion either way on the level and quality of care for them, but honestly if they're still willing to travel, protect and be companions with and to you, I'm sure you are doing a fine job.

Share similarities... Oh, how terrible, I hope I haven't influence any of my Pokemon! the last thing they need is to be like me, they'd be in a downward spiral of failure and misery! They would be the most shameful Pokemon, through no fault of their own!

[fortunately her sort-of compliment cuts off his usual sobbing rant.]

...That's kind of you to say.

[[Don't mind her as she stares for a moment or so.]]

By similarities, I mostly meant in the fact that they have a natural sense of family structures, and a mild yearning to care for those they love, much like humans do. However, I'm sure younger Pokemon are very capable of being influenced by their trainer if they're impressionable enough. Of course, I'm sure your Pokemon are no such things...

Might I ask why you believe that you'd have such an affect on them?

[oh, rose, if you thought that was stare worthy...]

Because I am a pathetic waste of life that can't do anything right.

[[She's already regretting wasting that first stare.]]

Really? Could you possibly give me some examples of things that you can't do right?

[[You've got her attention, Ritsu. Welcome to Therapist Lalonde's traveling psychologist service. Hopefully the chair is comfortable enough for you, and apologies that there are no snacks or tissues available.]]

[Hope you're not expecting any overnight miracles. Hell, you just started with a doozy, as he counts on his fingers...]

I'm clumsy, I'm stupid, I'm paranoid, I'm annoying, I crossdress, I can't take care of my pokemon, I can't take care of my family, I haven't even greeted you properly or introduced myself properly, so I'm also rude, and I'm wasteful, I'm ignorant, I'm cowardly, I'm oblivious, I'm selfish, I'm greedy, I'm weak, I'm foolish, I'm gullible...

[and he keeps going on.]

[[...oh god. Where does she even start?

Well, stopping him is likely the first place, so she clears her throat to try and get his attention.]]

I suppose this is an error on my part for not asking this first, as this really should have been my first question.

[[Don't mind her as she leans off screen while talking. She's simply gathering a blank journal and a pen.]]

What qualities would a person of worth and value possess in your opinion? Also, as for introductions, I also failed to do so, making me equally as rude. However, I'm not offended by any means.

My name is Rose Lalonde.

[he bows so deeply you'd think his back would break. And here comes the defining factor of Ritsu...]

I'm sorry for not introducing myself or giving my name! I'm sorry for pulling you into my problems! I'm sorry for not saying my specific qualities earlier!

I'M SORRY FOR IMPLICATING THAT YOU WERE ALSO RUDE! I'M SORRY FOR MISLEADING YOU AND MISGUIDING YOU! I APOLOGIZE TO YOU, TO MY POKEMON, I APOLOGIZE TO THE WORRRRRRRLD!

[[...oh my god Ritsu.

Yup, just some more idle staring here, before quietly going to write his name on the front of the journal. Originally she figured it would just be the first few pages.

Now she's not so sure.]]

It is quite the pleasure to make your acquaintance, Ritsu.

Now then.

[[Deep breath.]]

First of all, there is no need to apologize to me. I promise you that. I was not offended, I was not upset, you in no way harmed me or my feelings. So there is assuredly nothing to apologize for, okay?

Second of all, it is of no fault of yours for not listing your qualities earlier. I had not even thought to ask, and there is no way you could have read my mind to tell you, so you've done nothing wrong. You also have done nothing to mislead or misguide me.

Do you know what I would like for you to do for me? [[Most pleasant smile! Look at how comforting and friendly she is being!]]

[He sniffles a little, trying to wipe some tears on his sleeves.]

I'm sorry, I don't know what you'd like me to do. As I said, I'm very stupid and ignorant... But I'll try and do what you want, whatever that is.
