Happy Birthday to Me

Alright, the weekend in review:
Friday night I had nothing on the calendar when I got home but found my way to the British Rose for karaoke. redjohn joined me and we had the, ahem, pleasure of being joined at our table by a very, very drunk Johnny Cash impersonator. He was amusing at first but got more and more irritating as the night went on. At least he was a good singer, but I was not thrilled by his continued presence.

The next day I woke up to give blood at the Red Cross and found that I had a message to call them immediately. I did so and they said that I had been deferred indefinitely for medical reasons and I had to call a number to find out why...

I called the number and it seems that some idiot decided that, because my doctor suggested that I should give red blood as well as plasma because my red blood count runs high (though not dangerously so), that I had hemochromatosis and that I am no longer allowed to give. I told the Red Cross that I have been tested and do NOT have that disease and need to be reinstated. They said that a MD needs to review my record. I told them that I have already got medical records proving that I am healthy and that the whole thing should result in them reprimanding the idiot that is keeping me from donating. They are supposed to have a doctor call me in the next 2 weeks.

Then I went to the first baby shower I've ever been to. 2 hours later I got to be a pall bearer at a funeral for the first time. Very strange juxtaposition. Then I killed time and went to the place where my show was that evening.

I think the show went really well. I had more than 30 people show up and actually made more cash that night based on cover charges than I did in a single year with any of my bands. Amazing...

At the end of the show lamerrill provided cake and several people provided shots and beer.

The next day was my birthday proper... I went out with my parents for breakfast, then to church, then to rehearsal with the LLJB, then to rehearse for the melodrama, then azurelion organized a birthday dinner. He, helenwheels, kruckegirl, sinab and ssellers all joined me at Gordon Kiersh, then followed to Veritas for a glass of wine.

The best part of the evening was right at the end when a couple was leaving Veritas and the girl bumped into the door then fell into a potted plant arrangement, leaving a rather recognizable imprint where she sat down on the flowers. I think that someone got a picture... I'll have to post it if they did.

So I'm now hoping that my next year is a good one. I'm left weary by the last one.

I also got asked last night what I want for this year... I'm not sure in detail. I know that I really want to feel like I'm making a large difference, not a small one. I'm tired of being blocked by random circumstances from remaking my life. I'm also left weary by attempted romances. I started trying to end everything about this time last year but still carried a torch for kacih. Maybe I can convince everyone else to douse their torches for me in the coming year.

Basically, here's hoping for a more meaningful and less difficult life for a year. Then we can reassess as I firmly step into mid-life.

weekend update, birthday
