Science Fiction Double Feature

The weekend marked my first actual real party since I put together new floors. It's been far too long coming, but I'm finally back in my own skin. The weirdest thing though was how long it took to prep the house. I hadn't had to work this hard to get everything cleaned up and set since my housewarming party a little over 3 years ago. I guess it was just that I'd let stuff pile up everywhere since people weren't coming over regularly.

After going ballroom dancing on Friday for the first time this year (wow, I lost months to just weird stuff...) I woke up early and tried to mop the floors. I realized that I didn't have a working mop anymore... the sponge mops had all gone bad. Plus I didn't have a dust mop for the hardwoods. So off I go to Target.

Then I started the food. With a double feature of Zardoz and Barbarella it was a cheese theme with some sausages and meatballs to pay homage to the opening scenes. Meatballs started by noon, cheeses and crackers procured, cheesecake defrosting... good stuff.

Then the drinks. I created 3:
Hairy Zardoz - Rootbeer, Bailey's Irish Cream, and Johnnie Walker Red
Electric Barbarella - Lemonade, POM pomegranate juice, orange juice, grapefruit juice, blue caracao, UV Blue, and floated 151 Rum to light, served in a hurricane glass.
Durand Durand - Lemonade, POM pomegranate juice, orange juice, grapefruit juice, peach schnapps, and Midori

I must have poured 20 Durand Durands. I'm quite pleased with the drinks.

Popcorn got popped at 7, right as my first guests appeared. We just mingled for about 45 min and then started with Duck Dodgers in the 24th 1/2 Century, followed by the ultimate cheesecake film Barbarella, followed by the very, very trippy Zardoz. The movies were properly mocked. The evening was fun.

And at the end of the night we, randomly, had a sing-along and impromptu concert playing "pass the guitar".

Thanks to those of you who made it. I wouldn't have had 1/8 the fun without the crowd.

parties, movies
