Man, this was a memorable weekend. I don't think I'll forget it for a long time.
Friday I got to go hang with the mensans for criscoon's 35th birthday. As always, it was fun.
Saturday I finished up another song (which will be posted shortly), then I got to see amanday for the first time in about 5 years. She came into town and we went to the No Doubt show together after a trip to Twisted Root.
Actually, calling it "the No Doubt show" short-changes The Sounds and Paramore, both of whom were really good as well. You could really see how Gwen has influenced the lead singers to the other bands. All 3 would have been worth the price of admission. I plan to get The Sounds new album when it drops tomorrow. It was really cool to see the crowd explode like it did over and over again. It was a really, really great show.
Then we finished the night off with amanday breaking her cherry-oke, singing some Melissa Ethridge song. Her first time ever was actually not bad.
So that was a good weekend without it keeping on going. But Sunday, after church, I got to go play a pretty solid LLJB jazz show and then I met up with
kruckegirl for the B.B. King show. Alas, she didn't enjoy it as much as I did, but I loved seeing a living legend. He's 83 and still charismatic and still has a great voice and guitar skills. He can't play straight through the show anymore (arthritis), so he has another guitar player that does the rhythm work, leaving him to just play solos and sing. He surrounded himself with one helluva good band. And to top it off he was even funny with his observations. For instance:
- I've never seen an ugly woman. Never. Look, guys, if you smile at a woman, and she sorta smiles back, and you don't see no teeth, you just need to go get another drink of vodka.
- When you get to my age (83) you get rid of all of your old doctors and get new ones. My doctors now are Dr. Viagra, Dr. Cialis, and Dr. Levitra
- Any of you ever been on a farm? I love farmers. If it wasn't for farmers there would be an awful lot of hungry people in this world.
- I love being on stage. It's how I have fun. I figure, if you ain't having fun you might as well go home and get drunk.
So I got to see a living legend and it was still entertaining.
Plus my brother and his girlfriend were running around all weekend dropping in on people to chat for a few minutes at a time. I couldn't see them for long, but it's always good to get a little drive-by visit from them.
So that's the weekend. I'll dig up that mp3 and post it here in a few...
