So today is the first day of Lent. I've thought about a lot of things to give up for the next 40ish days, but it suddenly hit me just now what I should do.
I'm giving up snacking. I was going to do red meat, but I really want to take kacih out for both a steak and a big Mexican dinner at some point shortly after she returns, and I don't want to say "Let's go to Bob's Steak and Chop House! I'll have a potato."
I was going to give up alcohol, but she has written me a couple of times how she's craving a Shiner, and I'm planning to do that for her too.
I was going to give up coffee, but I got about 20 minutes into work today and decided that I needed a better idea for many, many reasons. Cost, calories, caffeine addiction, etc.
But inspiration hit me as I'm sitting here on a conference call. Snacks... I can do that. It will change my daily habits, but won't be onerous. I can still function without affecting my plans for friends of any type. I've gotten in the habit of 2 small snacks during the day, but I don't need them really. I'd rather have my focus reset on my faith in the mid morning and mid afternoon for a few minutes every day.
So that's the plan. Punch that card, and away we go.
