I come from a good gene pool. I realized it again last night when I called my grandmother to tell her that I was out of town this weekend. See, my mom's birthday is on Saturday and my grandmother wants to celebrate all of the October birthdays at a party this weekend. She put it on my mother's birthday to be able to better guilt-trip me into showing up. But Mom had already blessed my travel plans, so I was to be gone. I told my grandmother.
Then I told her that I'd be running that 5k on Saturday morning. She asked me my time. And I said that I'm consistently clocking around 35 min.
She said that I should be ashamed of that time. That she's 86 and only 5' tall, and that's the time that SHE'S clocking. She ran one last April in 36 minutes.
What? I didn't remember this. Then she asked me if I remembered the arm injury she had last April and May. I did, and she got it running. Someone tripped her in the beginning thing and she fell and hurt her arm, but ran the race anyway. So she figured that if I'm tall and in my 30s I should be turning in about a 20 min 5k.
I'm getting trash-talked by an 86 year old woman. I guess I'd better see what type of time I can turn in.
Maybe I should do what Blair threatened. He said his time was around 4 minutes... he plans to drive. ;)
