I can't remember a weekend where the plans changed more frequently, or where it was more difficult to get from one locale to another.
Friday: The original plan had me going to see The 300 on Friday with the Gen-X M's, but that got moved to a "Guys Night" plan for Saturday, letting me meet up with MusicalAsh for dancing. While I was there I made some new buddies at Dance For Me and bought some new 2-tone swing dance shoes. As for the dancing, I think I'm coming along fairly well. She thinks I have some significant things to work out. I can't disagree, but still, thinking of where I was a month ago... anyway. I called it quits early.
Saturday: I woke up and tried to get my oil changed, but got stuck in traffic on my way to the oil change place at 9:30am. Apparently this was caused by a light being out, and that tacked about 20 minutes onto the drive. So I figured I'd do it later in the day and went to my dance lesson, which was supposed to start at 11. I got stick in traffic twice more on the way... 1 time for construction and 1 time for a wreck on 75. I had planned to get there at 10:30, and I got there at 10:58. And my dance teacher didn't get there at all. So at 11:30 I leave to go to Don't Tell Mama rehearsal, and I get stuck in a traffic jam caused by someone jumping off a bridge or something and shutting down 75 at Park. So the entire world was diverted past the dance studio. I just barely make it to rehearsal at 1, where we play for 3 hours. Then I start getting phone calls from people saying that they aren't going to make the movie. So by 6 it's down to just
itsjames2u and me, and he decides that another "man date" really isn't the best plan. So I call SweetMelissa and offer to meet up with her after dinner with the Pechts to go see a friend of hers who's spinning on Lower Greenville.
But right as I leave the Pechts (by the way, Jenny can i have that meatloaf recipe? It was really, really good.) I get a call from her saying that she isn't feeling great and isn't going out after all... but LiberalRyan and DrAimee also call a few minutes later to say that they want to see The 300 and are going for the 9:15 show if I can meet them.
So I got to see the movie anyway, but it was not the way I was expecting.
I liked the movie, in case you're interested. It felt a lot like a comic book, which normally isn't my thing, but it worked somehow. For those who like seeing barely-clad men, there are 300 of the most amazing specimens of masculinity on the planet in this movie... and they are total bad-asses. The violence is mostly video-game violence. There are points where the dialog is pretty dumb, but it's based on a comic book. It doesn't distract too much. The historians will complain about a couple of things... the phalanx is actually discussed in a few occasions, but the Spartans are shown going into single-combat all the time on the battlefield after they talk about the phalanx explicitly. Then again, it looks a lot cooler to go fight like a Viking than it does to fight like a Spartan, so you have to forgive that. The other thing is that the landscape isn't correct historically. But it does make for some stunning visuals. And I really wish I could be half the badass that Leonidas is. That whole thing about "I would bow, but after spending all morning killng your soldiers I've got this peculiar cramp in my leg..." is just awesome.
Sunday: I woke up late, even though I did fix my clocks. But I got to church in time for choir, then met Aaron and Crissy for a very brief lunch, then rehearsed, and rehearsed, and practiced... and so ends the weekend.
Tonight is my makeup lesson for the missed dance lesson on Saturday. The nice thing is that they're going to comp this one. It won't count against my 24. That makes me happy.
Then tomorrow was supposed to be a hockey game, but I'm giving my tickets to Aaron and Brent. I've been asked to help acclimate some of our out-of-town employees who are working in Dallas for a few months, and so I'm going to take one or two of them out with me. If anyone wants to see Catfish Heaven on Tuesday night,
lamerrill and I are going, along with at least 1 or 2 randoms.
That's it for now...
