Title: A Good Night's Sleep (221B)
Author: troublesize
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Mention of John's nightmares?
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Summary: When Sherlock and John start sharing a bed, the detective finds that the optimal sleeping position isn't actually all that easy to deduce!
Author's Note: This came about after a VERY restless night in a noisy highway hotel (they really aren't terribly conducive to getting any rest, are they?). Interestingly, after I dragged myself out of bed and wrote this, I slept quite well. The power of suggestion?? Please enjoy!

A Good Night's Sleep

With one leg laid over John, and wrapping him up in his arms, Sherlock felt protective, good.

John grew tense, woke up, fighting to be released.

“I feel too trapped,” he explained apologetically.

Sherlock promised not to do it again.

With one leg insinuated between John’s legs, and their fingers wound together, Sherlock felt blissful, comforted.

John kept shifting.

“My shoulder keeps going stiff,” he complained, and Sherlock determined to find another way.

With John lying on his stomach, Sherlock inclined his hips to follow the curve of John’s body, careful not to enclose him. He wondered at how perfectly they fit together - like the most beautiful thing in the world.

“You’re smothering me,” John sighed, moving once more. “And your hips are really bony.”

Sherlock pouted, thankful for the darkness hiding his dismay from the other man, and conceded to lying side-by-side, skins barely making contact. He felt solitary, isolated, and willed it away. John is right here, he reminded himself.

John twitched in his sleep, kicking and punching at his enemies, those invisible, remembered, imagined.

Sherlock placed a hand on John gently, held him, pulled him close, tucked John’s head in against Sherlock’s chest, to hear the regular, calm thumping.

Soon, John’s breath matched Sherlock’s.

Soon, John wrapped his arm around Sherlock.

Soon, John and Sherlock fell asleep, both.
