Hello all,
I just wanted to post a quick update to let you all know that I am still alive. My dad is currently visiting my brother and sister in New Zealand...I am exceedingly jealous, but have been given the post of holding down the fort here at home....so hold down I do!
Anyway, I have been planning my own adventures of late. I am going to Ireland. Now those of you that have known me for any length of time have heard that phrase before. more then once...
cut me a break....
I m actually going to get on a plane and go this time! Honest! No work/lost passport/stupid boys/lack of finances is going to hold me back. I have purchased my tickets to get there and back. I have reserved beds in Hostels. I have checked train and bus schedules for the days I want to move about.
Here is the basic scoop:
I will leave Dulles International on Monday night the 12th of November. I sleep well on planes so I will arrive refreshed and ready to go at 7:30am in Dublin. I will deplane and spend Tuesday-Friday based out of Dublin. I plan to go to see some castles and some churches and of course the Guinness Storehouse...and I will picnic on St Stephen's Green after picking amazing food at the open air daily market. I will dance on Wedensday and possibly Thursday night, and I will likely drink a pint or two. I will blog and take pictures...or perhaps not. I might just take a video camera and video blog....I am not sure yet. Mayhaps a bus tour or two....oh, and I DART (metro) trip down the coast to one of the many coastal towns for a bit of variety.
On Friday I will awake in the morning, check out of my hostel, and board either train or bus to Galway City. I am thrilled about this part of the adventure. I would rather travel by train, but we will have to see, as it is expensive. Once I arrive in Galway my most anticipated part of the trip begins. I will be staying in the heart of the city. Overlooking the water of the bay and the Square of Eyre. Then I will be heading out to eat Oysters, and see the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. Both of these are huge geological wonders and I am so excited to finally take them in live...as opposed to the many books I have.
Then on Monday, I have some more time...not yet scheduled. I might see how things go once I am there...get some local recommendations, see what happens. I would like to ride while I am there, but it is expensive....more then 100 Euro's in most cases, and that is more then 3 nights accomodations. I am attempting to do this cheaply, but we will see. I might just have to go it....only living once and all that....
If anyone has been to Ireland and has suggestions, I would be happy to hear them, As those last 2 days have not yet been spoken for. I am considering Cork or Limmerick. Or perhaps going up to Connemara, which was my original inspiration for wanting to go to Ireland. (It is a cute story involving a National Geographic video about the Connemara pony and I rented it many times and watched it over and over again....when I was 10 and began talking then about this trip.)
Anyway, I have to get back to Dublin in time for a Wednesday afternoon flight back to Dulles, where my loving family and friends will meet me at the airport and escort me home in time for Thanksgiving picture sharing the next day! It is going to be my most wonderful adventure yet!
Stay tuned for other advancements of planning and excitement! I am also planning a trip to Atlanta, and perhaps to Seattle again soon, so watch for more fun....oh, and I am also working on NOLA again, as always. Want to join me?
