inside: a prologue for yet another something because we take on too much. read for tangled threads and ghastly incoherence, and the start of a new fic.
♔King of the Hill is a rather complex piece, and it's one of our biggest challenges to date. There are a few rules readers need to understand before embarking on its confusing journey, and we're posting them as a separate post so that if anyone needs to refer back, they won't have to read the first chapter over and over again, and these will have a separate post for convenience.
So without further ado, let us present the rules of our game!
-
There is only one objective; to stay alive.
A word of advice whilst you’re at it?
Eliminate as many players as you can.
In this game, there are only three rules.
One. You do not have a choice to stop playing.
Two. You have no say in the Game itself.
Three. Every action will have a repercussion.
Here’s how you play.
There are thirteen players. There will be one King, one Queen, one Ace, and one Joker. You do not know the identities of any other player apart from yourself.
The Ace is the King’s only ally. It is up to the Ace to figure out who to protect; and who to attack. The Ace will not know who the king is. I repeat - you do not know the identities of any other player apart from yourself. If the Ace eliminates the King, the Ace is out of the game. If the Ace is eliminated, the player who eliminated the Ace will also be out. The King will not know who his Ace is. It is up to the Ace to keep both himself and the King in the game until the end.
The Queen is a questionable character. The Queen is no one’s enemy, yet also the person to fear. The Queen and the Queen alone is given the ability to find out who the current King is once every day. How the Queen uses the information is up to them.
The Queen will also be given a different objective to other players; this will be known to the Queen only. The Queen’s elimination will result in a pause in the game where a new Queen shall be appointed. The Queen cannot ‘win’ the Game (survival until the end will result in a 10 billion dollar reward) unless all other players are eliminated.
The King is not a set character. There will be a chosen King only at the beginning. The person who is King after all other players have been eliminated will be crowned the King of the Hill, and will receive 13 billion dollars. The King can be eliminated by any player (however, if you are the Ace that would be foolish). The player who eliminates the King will be the next King. The King does not know anyone else’s identity - like everyone else. It doesn’t matter how long you were King, or how you eliminated the King; it only matters who the King is at the end of the Game.
The Joker is the winner of any Game. The Joker is the only person who will know the identities of every player. The Joker cannot be eliminated. The Joker, like the Queen, will be given a different objective and will not be able to ‘win’ the game in the end. The identity and further details of the Joker will not be known to anyone. The revelation of the identity of the Joker will result in elimination and a pause in the Game where a new Joker will be chosen. For players? The possibility of the Joker being your temporary ally is very real. You will not know what the Joker’s objective is.
The Game ends typically when there is a single King, Queen or Joker left that is not eliminated. In short, there will be only one victor. If the two last non-eliminated players are the King and the Ace, all rules are to be ignored and there will have to be one elimination. If the Joker and another player are left, there will be an immediate elimination of the other player and the Joker has won.
The pause in the Game will only happen when the Joker or Queen has been eliminated. During the pause no player can make a move nor eliminate another player. Also, you must eliminate a player before rain falls. The rain will fall at random ; and if you have not eliminated a player one player will be automatically eliminated by random choice. The rain rule applies to all identities.
Disobedience of the rules will result in direct elimination.
ELIMINATION means certain DEATH. You may eliminate anyone you deem fit, in any way you want.
Survive until the End.
