Week 2 has started off strong, kids. Unfortunately, I have a wicked headache, and the pharmacies here all close as early as everything else (7ish), so I'm stuck with it. Makes writing this thing rather unappealing. So, we're going to keep it short (hahah...we'll see if I'm even capable of that).
Apparently they all sound the same to me. The intern down the hall that I thought was a lovely mousy British girl is actually a raging Aussie. Who knew? She seemed so quiet and sweet. I ran into her at the bus stop this morning, and asked her how her weekend was. "Friday night was massive. Got totally shitfaced. Spent Saturday recovering. Last night my roommate's friends didn't go home until 4AM." Word, girl. Sign me up.
It's a small small small small world. Aussie #1, Jess, introduced me to Aussie #2, Sam, at lunch today. We were sitting around talking about our roommates and neighbors, and I mentioned Barras being from Mongolia. Sam pipes up, "Oh, my neighbor Nat is married to a guy from Mongolia." Barras' sister-in-law's name being Nat, and me figuring the coincidence was too much, we played Twenty Questions (me: Is she Welsh? Sam: She sounds Brit, but I dunno. Me: Two kids? Boys? Sam: yes!) until we were satisfied. I mean, seriously, isn't Geneva a little big for that kind of thing? Guess not.
I HAVE THE BEST BOSS EVER. It just can't be overstated. When I asked for a day off to see my friend, Amy, in London next month, Tarun replied, "Sure you can have the day, no problem! Oh, but have you been to Paris? You should take a long weekend and go there, too, it's only 3 hours from here by train. You need to explore while you're here!" I love her. Love love love love.
Happy Birthday, Emily! Lady, you officially have the best birthday present I've ever heard of: Barack Obama as President. I've been listening to Michigan Radio online to get myself siked for the inauguration tomorrow. There's a woman from the US who will be watching the inauguration at a bar downtown, and I will be joining her at 6 to cry and cheer and generally love my country for the first time in a long time. I suddenly wish for just one day that I could be home to celebrate there with all of you.
