While trying to start up my motorcycle, gas poured out of one of the carbuerators. Owen postulated that the float valve is probably messed up. Moreso, the float needle. No worries though, as carb rebuilt kits come with float needles and if that is, in fact, the problem (which makes sense to me) it should be an easy fix.
I'm feeling OK about this little setback because in all honesty, we only rebuilt one of the carbs. We cleaned them both, but only had one carb rebuild kit, so we put the old gaskets and such back into one freshly cleaned carb. I really hope that's the one that overflowed. Not that it matters, I'll probably rebuild them both at once just to make sure.
So, another $50 gets dumped into the bike. I'm so glad I only bought it for $400, or I would have set it on fire by now. (That's a lie, it's a vintage motorcycle.)
Other than that the timing is still off and the bike maxes out at between 40 and 50 mph.
And I still need a title for it to get a tag. ($80+ dollars for title, who knows for tag).
I get an extra paycheck this month, Friday to be exact, I hope to put some time and money back into the bike. I wish I knew of local places that sold parts/rebuild kits for a 1971 honda cl450, but alas, no such luck. Perhaps Syd's? Ilia is leaving/has left for postertour (?) so my only hope is that one of Owen's friends will come over and get 'er done.
In the meantime, I'll be in my shed knee deep in carb cleaner and grease.
