The blue box with all the shiny stuff in it was built by Bruce Hill (a co-worker) and the students have written software which makes it operate.
What the article doesn't mention is that this is the second generation of this system. The first was built and programmed by me with some design direction from the man who built the box in the photo. :) I have been (lightly) working with the students on the software portion of the project while Bruce specified and assembled the physical plant. Looking at the front panel the students built you can see obvious similarities to the software I wrote. Looking at the code behind it you see no similarities... because they know what they're doing. };]
