My room fight

There are things such as ants (in your pants) in a jar of dry milk or midges on an overripe banana, which you get used to very soon. It`s been less than month since I came here but I already feel quite comfortable picking out midges from my drink with a teaspoon and overall - living side by side with the various representatives of the species of arthropods. It`s species, right? (I am sure there is a biology textbook here, so I should check.).

I am trying to make myself go outside to feed Zorro and Melon some overripe bananas. They are our horses. Arne`s horse is called Don Melon, probably named so because of its color. I like them both. They are incredibly smart. After riding a horse, you tend to be wet and you stink of a horse, naturally. It is a great incentive to have a cold shower. Every time before a ride I weight up the pros and cons and the way I`m feeling now - I choose to ride.
Arne is driving me crazy more and more with every day. I hope he will be spending here as little time as possible. What I don`t like is that he is tactless, irresponsible and sloppy bloke. I hope when other Belgian volunteers leave for home he`ll change his attitude but so far he`s been really annoying. For instance, it doesn`t even occur to him that he might be bothering me when he`s watching a movie very loud while I am sleeping. He does housework and he would never wash a single dish or clean somewhere until you`ve reminded him to do it about a thousand times.

Last time when we were doing housework, he asked me what else he could do. I asked him to throw away empty cans in our bathroom. He looked at the shelf in surprise, told me that he had no idea how to sort them and went to watch a movie.

I am praying that Arne will be doing the accounts and other paperwork he has to do. Otherwise it will be a disaster. I`ve already pictured him telling me: «I am fed up with everything and I am going back home».

By the way, it`s funny how we were deciding who would get a room with a double bed, which is now Lotte and Joris`s. Arne told me at breakfast: «In a couple of days I`ll be moving into a new room». I nearly choked on my oatmeal. «Excuse me, but which room are you going to move into? ». He replied to me very carefully: «Into Lotte and Joris`s». And I`m like, «The hell you are! Isn`t one room in Yalanhuitz enough for you? Do you need a presidential suite for a one-day stay in Pakhom? There`s no way you are going to get it». Arne grumbled something, but

Joris supported me: «Arne, this room is right above the waiting room. Victoria has to be able to hear if there`s a knock on the door at night about medical emergency. So I think she should get the big room». Joris is a good guy, Arne is a jerk. His girlfriend is coming in summer and he wants to blow her mind.

Sometimes I think that I`ve never had many friends among foreigners. Especially among my classmates and students at the university I`m not sure if it was because I can`t pay enough attention to meaningless get-together or because I behave differently. However, things didn`t look so bad in Russia. My university friends and I were close as lips and teeth especially in the first years of study. I think I`m very open and it scares off people. I should be more reserved or socialize with similar freaks, who think my life is exciting rather than scary.

Ok, enough with this. After all, I came here to help people and it is my job. It`s not a summer camp. It is nice to have great colleagues you get along with, but what can you do?
