The sun is shining and I can write in my blog.
It has been my first encounter with the wildlife of Guatemala. Before today I`ve only seen hummingbirds, donkeys, South American grey foxes and hogs, which are called here , by the way, «coche», like a car. It`s like «Hey, Baby! What a ride on my «coche»? ». Go figure what he trying to say!
The day started with some chicken pie and a carrot salad, Lotte has some Coca-Cola (Yeah, you can easily find it in the middle of nowhere. People have earthen floors, keep chickens in their homes, heat their huts with a log fire … and … buy Coca-Cola), I had some the herbal tea (no junk for me, thanks), Arne had a beer (actually, we are not supposed to drink alcohol here because we are doctors, and also alcohol is not sold in local stores because people are very religious drink alcohol, there already have seven churches in the village and more are under construction, so people should stay away from alcohol. But we are in the middle of a transition period - one project coordinator is about to leave, because his replacement has arrived - so we currently have both - they occasionally have a beer to wind down).
So, like I said, we had some chicken pie and then there was a rustling sound at the bottom of the stairs.
Immediately Lotte asked me right away if the door was locked. I told her that it wasn`t my job to lock it and what on earth were the two of them there for? So I`m getting all worked up but also peering downstairs and it seems like there`s nothing to worry about. I can see that Lotte beard me and she takes the keys and we go downstairs.
It`s funny scene - here we are, two girls wearing pajamas and slippers, holding a torch and staring a scorpion crawling in circles on the floor. At first I didn`t understand what it was. Only after Lotte`s «Oh! What is it with two HANDS? » I saw that it actually was a scorpion.
We darted for a camera and a jar but when we came back, it was gone. «It must have crawled outside». We followed it. We had to take a picture. Apparently, the scorpion was fed up with us and tried to scare us away with his stinger.
But it didn`t scare the hell out of us for nothing we took a picture after all.
