A long post as it's been a busy week. Monday getting to work, my boss asked me to attend a Contractor company's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) review. As it worked out, I had to get a ride to our other mine site in order to attend, the meeting was scheduled for a whole day, was quite interesting and for good measure there was a business sponsored working lunch too. It's my practice that unless I'm on call, I shut off my phone so as not to disrupt the activities I'm participating in. LOML, (
aetheldaeg) called a left a message advising that the hospital called to ask if I could attend Surgical Teaching this Thursday. It's mandatory in order to be scheduled for my next procedure. Details a little bit later in this post.
Tuesday, I was scheduled to attend an all day training session titled Asset Integrity, Process Safety Management. We were 22 in a multifunction meeting room with two Process Engineers who facilitated the event. We dissected several incidents to determine which specific process were compromised, some causing catastrophic failure, including losses of lives. I'm not overly sure there will be a lot of utility for me directly. That said, the day was filled with interesting stories and incidents related, some from our site and from our type of business. Also, and even more important, in order to be able to attend the surgical teaching, I had to shift my appointment with the site Doctor to reassess the modified duty restriction he imposed when I returned to work at the beginning of the month. Yes - I am now Fit Full Duties and in 30 days (28 Feb) the clock will be reset to enable company sponsored medical leave for me during and post surgery. This is a huge benefit as I will remain on full pay for up to six months!
Wednesday morning I was finally able to talk with my Boss for a few minutes, told him that I needed to be home to attend the appointment and asked if I could leave on one of the early bus shuttles to allow me to drive mostly in daylight. I may have mentioned that I'm a member of a phenomenal team, my Boss is the type of guy who has challenged us all while providing opportunities for growth and development. So, I left site at 11:30, ate a quick lunch in my rental accommodation and was on the road, homeward bound, at 13:45 arriving home a little after 18:00. Total time in transit, four and one half hours, pretty good for this time of the year.
Because of the short elapsed time since I was last there, we weren't required to attend the formal presentations, (about two hours duration) but only had to attend for Lab - urine, blood and ECG; X-Ray; Anesthesiologist interview and finally concluding activities with my case manager. Oh, I almost forgot, I also had to do a lung function test and was told that my lung function is somewhat on the lower end of the "average" scale. As I don't recall ever having any breathing issues, I'm not concerned. So, all in all LOML and I spent from 10:00 - 13:30 at the hospital, way too long for us to travel home without having lunch nearby.
We got home around 15:00, the dogs were very happy to be released from their kennels. That's all for now.
