Funny how windshields keep the wind from blowing through your hair, provided you have hair. Chips, cracks, and dings form literally from the minute you begin driving a car. In our part of the world, there are a lot of occasions when a rock gets blasted at your windshield or other parts of the car when large, very large, trucks are passing in the other direction. I've had this happen several time, once the very day after a new windshield was installed in our SUV. My current car has three quite large rock dings, the last of which hit in such a way that the glass has cracked and is beginning to obstruct my field of vision. Therefore it's time to have it replaced, the third for my five year old car.
A number of car insurance policies have "Glass" included in the car (Comprehensive Coverage) insurance policy but not here. Instead, we have a separate glass policy, good thing too as the deductible is only $50.00 vice the $500.00 for a claim against our car insurance.
Earlier this morning, I dropped the car off at our local glass works shop to get the new windshield installed. It'll be ready for pick-up later this afternoon. After it's done, I'll be able to see the splendor of our sunsets without the chips and cracks that have been obstructing my view for some months now. I hope it lasts for several months before I will need another but Winter's on the way and with it, more gravel will be on the road.
