Life is all about facing injuries. Injuries are things that sideline us from our main goal. In sports, our main goal is to win a tournament or even just one game. In life, our goals are broader and more general. For most of us, our main goal is just to find happiness.
Why settle for contentment? Strive to be happy.
We all get injured in sports and in life. Injuries face us unexpectedly. We can never anticipate these injuries. Let's begin with the sports aspect: we don't know when we are gonna get an ankle sprain (my friend Oj is suffering from a bad ankle sprain now) or shoulder strain (which I am experiencing at the moment) or whatever other injury. We just have to deal with it. The first step is to accept the fact that we are hurt, and then think of what we can do to compensate for it. I have a doubles tournament scheduled for this week, and I am determined to play through this shoulder injury. My recurring ankle pains still seem to be more of a problem, but I won't let it stop me. Although, always remember: we must pick our battles. If I felt that this was a serious injury, I would drop out of the tournament. We must know our limits.
In life, we should also know when to pick our battles. We all have our good days and bad ones. We just have to learn to appreciate the good and deal with the bad. It is easier said than done, but it really is pretty simple: Don't let the bad days ruin your entire life. After all, without the bad, the good wouldn't taste as sweet.
I admit, I myself, am having some personal issues at the moment. There are days when I don't want to wake up because I feel like I've forgotten how to be happy. Then I see the faces of people who care, people who admire and people who are simply present... and I know I can go on.
We draw strength from people we think are strong, but nobody is strong all the time. We have to be strong, because there may just be someone out there who needs to lean on us. We need other people and other people need us back.
Don't get defeated by an injury. We all get injured. It just takes a little longer for some of us to recover. All we can do it take things one day at a time, and soon enough, if we're lucky, maybe we'll finally accomplish something.
Thank you to the people who have inspired me and touched my life. You are all stars.
You make me who I am.
So in a crisis, just believe. You can do it.
JUST DO IT.
