Post-Legacy.

So Tron fights for the users. Saves their asses at the end of the movie. And the general view I've seen in most post-Legacy Tronzler fics is that Tron's loyalty/faith in users was a big part of what pulled him out of Clu's corruption.

But what if it wasn't?

I want to see a post-Legacy Tronzler who is completely disillusioned about users. Not just like in Betrayal, where he seems to acknowledge that sure, they can have limits, but a Tron who's completely lost faith. After all the dumb shit Flynn pulled, and all the hundreds and hundreds of cycles of murder, oppression, and mindfuckery that resulted for the whole Grid, Tron just can't keep hoping. Users aren't benevolent gods. They don't care about what happens to programs, and even if they did, they've got no special insight into how to make things right.

Flynn left him-- which sure, he said to, but Flynn then proceeded to leave everyone, hiding out for hundreds of cycles while believers died for him. Sam was a fish out of water, and (from Tronzler's PoV) relatively ( ... )

Funny part is that I'm kinda going here, but more with Yori than Tron.

"Haven't your kind done enough to 'help?' If you have any sense, Flynn 2.0, you will get back in that beam, go back to your world, and leave ours alone!"

Would probably be equally fun to give the local paladin a massive faith crisis, though.

:) Heh. Read your excellent Yori/Tron fic, and I definitely saw hints of that from her.

Yeah; I agree it's less likely from Tron, but that's kinda why I want to see it. Besides, Clu broke him thoroughly enough I don't think it's unrealistic for him to have some massive issues when he puts himself back together-- and hey, maybe they won't be all self-directed.

Alan's logic said Computer code and compiler. It said things like Turing Test, Searle's Strong AI theory. Robots with the intelligence of bugs... It kept wanting to shriek that this was a bad dream or delusion.

The hands on his jacket, the ice blue eyes that were creepily like and unlike his own, the voice that seemed to pierce right into him - those all said that he was dealing with a man - unstable and in horrible pain.

"You coded me into existence. You gave me purpose. Once, you spoke to me and I felt it with my whole being. I loved you as my User and creator. I would have done anything you asked because of that love."

Alan couldn't stop the shudder, and couldn't get his tongue to work. What could he say? I didn't know. I couldn't see you as anything other than lines of code on a monochrome screen."But you gave me up without a protest. And I served Flynn like I would have served you. I knew the Users were not perfect, but I carried out their wishes because it was my purpose. I ached for you Alan-1. I wanted Flynn to show you my ( ... )

Bawww *bawls eyes out*. Please continue. I'd love to see Alan try to earn Tron's trust and love back again *sniffs*.

O.O I disappear from the internet for a day and... !?!!?!? THE AWESOME APPEARS!!!

(is OP. De-anoning. Hard.)

:D You're fracking amazing. Seriously... *shakes head*. I love how you fit it halfway with your other-story-canon, too. Gah. And you do it from Alan's perspective, but Tron's pain and fury and despair are just so utterly clear throughout. The immediacy. It's such a short moment, but overwhelmingly powerful-- particularly in how it evokes the eternity of trauma Tron went through. >.< Those twenty years (nearly a thousand years in-grid...). Aaah.

Crazily, incredibly good. I hope you write more, though I'm ecstatic already.

I'll usually have a single "head canon" per fandom. Overall, it's less of a headache if I just keep it cohesive in my brain. I might do a one-shot or something that won't fit there for a challenge fic or something.

Perhaps my favorite scene of all in the 1982 movie was the I/O Tower. In the analog world, Alan's punching instructions into a terminal, probably while he's bitching at Lora about how this is going to land all their asses in a jail cell.

In the digital one? Dumont is a badass, Yori's helpful, Sark's on their heels...And Tron is having a whopper of a religious experience.

I can see the aftermath of Legacy as Sam doing the smart thing and trying to get Alan's help on this - maybe even roping in Lora, Roy, and (that universe's version of) Jet. Going it alone was his dad's fuck-up. A handful of trustworthy people can keep each other in check ( ... )

T_T So sad. Because Alan had no way of knowing, but Tron's anguish is completely understandable.

Walking out of Legacy, one of the first things I said to my twin:

"If Alan was able to comprehend what he created with Tron, it would break his brain. If he was able to comprehend what became of Tron, it woud break HIM."

Now, it has a follow-up of sorts.

I say "Of sorts" because it's more or less a test run for that novel-length idea.
