Green Day Concert

Nov 17, 2004 23:54

So the Green Day concert was tonight...got picked up around 5:30, and Sarah, her brother, his girlfriend and her sister and I went down to the Pacific Colliseum. We had floor seats, so soon after arriving we got places on the floor near the front, but not too close, since it was already getting kind of crazy near the front, moshing, etc... Sugarcult was the first opening band, which I kinda liked...they were cool in a different sort of way. They were only there for a short time, however, before the awful, horrendous, ear-splitting mess that was New Found Glory started playing for almost an hour, which seemed like an eternity since every single one of their songs was the same and they seemed to go on forever. They were all so gross-looking too, and one of the especially larger members of the band took off his shirt for some reason...the one good part was that when they kept trying to get the audience to sing along to their songs, nobody did...and when they announced their last song, everyone seemed to cheer just that much more, since they were almost gone...I know I was!

So after seeing Tyler and Scott, and then having a bite to eat, Sarah and I made our way over to the LEFT side of the stage this time, since it seemed much calmer there. It was really cool when Green Day first came out...I'm actually not particularily a Green Day fan myself, and don't even own a CD...hahaha...but it was much more crazy over there than we expected, and we were being pushed around a bit. It wasn't THAT bad, though, until the lead singer invited a hundred or so of the people from the left side of the colliseum to come down onto the floor (it ended up being at least 5 times that much, I think) and then it was intense...poor Sarah was getting thrown around everywhere, and we had to try and grab each other's hands and drag ourselves out of there. I stepped on a cell phone at one point, and picked it up with great difficulty, trying not to get trampled, and waved it around a bit, but no one claimed it. A couple of minutes later this girl walks over to us and was looking all over the floor for something, so I pull it out and say "cell phone?" and she got sooo excited and hugged me, saying "thank you sooo much!!!" Anyway, we stayed near the back for the rest of the night, which was good because we still had a good view and didn't have to worry about being shoved around...disgusting, warm, sweaty people kept walking past us and SOAKING our arms though...gross. There were also people smoking everywhere, making it kind of hard to escape, and we had pot blown right into our faces a couple times, but hey, it's a concert in Vancouver. There actually seemed to be quite a lot of grungy people there, I guess they like that kind of thing...haha. I was waiting all night for the song they played at the very end...the one that I always remember from the last Seinfeld episode, Time of your life, I think it's called...anyway, they let go tons and tons of confetti during this song, and it was very cool...they also had some pyrotechnics during the show that made for a good presentation.

Anyway, I better try and get some last minute history studying in, with ears ringing and all...I'm out!
