Heart of Ice

I was thinking tonight. I have figured out why I enjoy the cold weather so much.

It's because I need it to be cold so that the ice around my heart doesn't melt.

I don't know whats wrong with me...all of the sudden I hate the holidays and everything that goes along with it. I hate the traffic, the little kids, the old people, the teens, the slow drivers...EVERYTHING!!!

Ok...now that I have that out of my system....

I helped the Red Cross today at their 21st annual "Feed a Friend Marathon." This is a program where the Red Cross packs and delivers food to the not so fortunate families in the greater Hanover area. I helped to pack boxes and deliver some of the food, as well.

One thing did manage to penetrate my heart of ice, though. Mom and I had a delivery for a family of 6 in a second story apartment. I got to the top of the stairs and walked in and this is what I saw: The mother and 5 little ones, all girls. The youngest was 6 months and the oldest could not have been older than 7 years. Yeah...that got me. This poor lady was raising them all on her own. The 5 year old tugged on my jacket as I was about to leave and had her arms out, wanting a hug. As I hugged her she said, "Thank you, Ms. Angel." I guess I looked confused and the 7 year old looked at me and said, "Mommy said you are all angels." I got in the car and started to tear up a little.

That's Christmas, folks. Even the coldest of people can have their hearts melted without any warning.

Ok...well...I need to get going...Christmas cards need to be written for tomorrow's work party.

Catch 'yall on the flip side!
