New Diggs

I haven’t done one in awhile, so here’s an update. I’m fairly settled in my new digs now. I’ve been living here for a little over a month. So far, I’m enjoying it immensely. I love the area I live in, but I’ve got some reservations about the apartment company staff. Being within walking distance of bars, restaurants, specialty food markets, and being right in downtown has a lot of perks. Don’t believe me? How about an example? Right now, I’m writing this from a microbrewery one block east of my place. I’ve got a mug of stout on my right, classic rock in my ear, and the Tigers playing the Royals on cable. I’m going to have another beer, and then stumble home. How awesome is that?

Life has been interesting lately. I’ve been trying to get used to pseudo-urban life. I guess technically it is urban life, I do live right in downtown, but the size of the city makes me slightly hesitant to call it that. I think KC is the 25th largest city in the US. Not much to talk about, but hey, they’ve got a professional baseball and a professional football team. At the very least, we’re bigger than Jacksonville. I’ll take that.

I’m starting to get the hang of this urban lifestyle. I’m doing my best to buy only the food I need. Being a block from a farmers market entices me to buy fresh, and buy often. Its cheap and its nearby for me to just buy as I go. The same goes for Asian goods because I’ve got 4 Vietnamese groceries within 5 blocks. Should I buy tofu in advance? Hell no, I’ll just walk out to buy some when I need it. Why stuff my refrigerator when I can just use theirs?

So things have been good lately. I’m kicking ass at work. Everyone there things I’m terribly talented. I’ve got great living arrangements, and honestly, I feel like I’ve finally started to get the hang of this town. I’ve built up a pretty decent group of friends. I’ve got people to hang out with any given weekend, and when I have events to share, I’ve got go to people for it. The only thing I really lack, is people to go get good beer with on a daily basis. I joined the mug club at the local brewery, so I get cheap beer all the time, but sadly, no one wants to have beer. They’re far to into cocktails and liquor. I’m okay with that, but beer….lord almighty, beer.

Ah well, things are good. Anna has been awesome. I’m going home in 2 weeks. I can’t wait for some of mom’s cooking.
