Meme: Ten Things I Love Beginning With 'B'

Mar 18, 2008 22:09

My first Meme!

Given the letter B by teenytinyghosty

Feel free to comment - and if you want a letter to do the same just ask. I'll be highly surprised if anyone reads this.

In no particular order. Just as they occurred to me.

  1. Biology.

It’s the subject I have dedicated my life to for the past three years. Okay, I have a love/hate relationship with it, but to be fair, I do love it really. It’s incomprehensibly difficult, incredibly fuzzy around the edges. There is so much not known and just so fascinating. The discovery of how to model diseases in something so vastly different to us as Drosophila melangastor, how the immune system deals with pregnancy, how an insect breathes… Okay, it makes my head hurt a lot, and I know I can’t take it past degree level, but it doesn’t stop me being in awe.

  1. Breathing.

Yes, something we take for granted yet something we should appreciate. Gaseous exchange is unsurprisingly complex, and an involuntary reaction. Something that occurs from day to day. Did you know that if you hear someone say the word ‘breathing’, you automatically start thinking about your own and regulating it consciously?

  1. Butterflies

Fragile, beautiful insects. Wow, this turning out to be quite a biological meme at the moment! Oh well. It always outstands me how they manage to survive against all the odds. However, like with many creatures, there are endangered species of butterflies. That makes me really quite sad.

  1. ‘Best’ friends.

Or rather, and excuse to talk about all my friends. For every friend is a best friend in some way or another to me. There are things I can talk about to friends online which I just… can’t to those who I know in real life. There are friends who introduce me to new things, because I’m really quite a nervy person. Then there are the friends who I know are there for me no matter what. I’m choosing to ignore the fact I have had friends stab me in the back. This leads to me being quite paranoid, but I do know I have some good friends still.

  1. Ballroom dancing.

A hobby I took up about six months ago. I so far know the waltz, quickstep, foxtrot and tango out of the ballroom dances. Dancing is an escape for me. Without it, I wouldn’t have stayed on at University - the salsa is what kept me there.  I also know jive, rumba, samba, cha-cha-cha. Dancing just feels like it’s a part of my soul and there’s nothing you can do to take it away from me. A real passion (and as a plus, the shoes are absolutely gorgeous too).

  1. Brother

My brother is younger than me, and a special soul. I’ve always felt the need to protect him, however violent he gets. He has Cerebral Palsy and has trouble accepting that fact. I would do (almost) anything for him.

  1. Books

Another escape. I’ve read quite a lot as a child, and regret not reading so much now. I’m hoping next year when I’m taking a gap in my studies (before hopefully taking a PGCE) that I will be able to pick it up a bit more. I don’t have a particular favourite author, or genre really. I love anything that will inspire me; I love anything that will make me laugh. I especially love something that transports me to another world. I also like books that make me think. I’m currently reading ‘The God Delusion’ by Richard Dawkins.

  1. Breathtaking views

Can be something as simple as an incredible sunset, to crashing waves or a walk through a wood and the wildlife coming to life around you. Also stargazing and the night sky. When I see a beautiful view, I often wish I was a better photographer to be able to capture the moment better. But in reality, even if I was, I don’t think even a photograph can comprehend a truly stunning view - which in my opinion can be found almost anywhere.

This is also my justification for not liking big cities such as London, Bristol and Manchester.

  1. Brannigan.

And my other pets. Brannigan is a 9 month old agoraphobic kitten. I miss him and the rest of my menagerie quite badly when I’m away. I also have:

-Charlie (cat)

she’s an old, grumpy lady. Beautiful grey and white. Very fussy about who she likes and when she gets fussed

-Tabby (cat)

short for Tabitha. Long-haired. Indoor cat in winter, outdoor in summer. Not really one for being fussed, but likes it when attention is lavished upon her, she just wont seek it out. Much prefers eating and sleeping.

-Sammy (guinea-pig)

cute and quirky. Must be fed before a specific time or he gets cranky. Also gets annoyed if you don’t get him out often enough and shrieks rather loudly to remind you.

-Captain Jack (gerbil)

black and white - doesn’t like being held initially and faster of the two.

-David (gerbil)
silver. Friendliest gerbil I have ever had. Will climb on your hand for a cuddle whenever you put it in the cage.

Also 2x tanks of goldfish.

  1. Baker, Tom

They say your favourite Doctor is the first one you watch. This is wrong for me. My favourite Doctor is Tom Baker. I love the eccentricity, his energy and his absolute devotion to the show when he was in it. Meeting him on 10/11/07 was incredibly thrilling and he was as wonderful as I expected.
