Once Upon a Time 2x10: The Cricket Game

I didn't keep my entire attention on Once this week. The show irritates me too much so I needed some sort of distraction as I watched it. That means I may have missed some pertinent details, but whatever. It's no big deal to me. I still enjoy the show, but if I focus too much on it, it just annoys me too much.

That being said, I enjoyed listening to this episode. Mostly because Regina remains the most fascinating character in Storybrooke. The developing relationship with mother dearest - how is essentially responsible for how Regina is - is a fascinating one. Especially so when compared to the sugary sappy tweeness of the Charming family. I feel increasingly sorry for her by the way she is given no chances whatsoever. She aims for redemption, but it's always cut short (whereas Rumpelstiltskin is allowed a True Love? Hmph.) It's hard not to feel sorry for her, with this frame job and losing everything.

I was surprised by Archie's murder, but not entirely surprised by it being a hoax in the end. Which begs the question: just who did Cora kill when she was masquerading as Regina? And I also presume that she knew Rumpel would be able to extract Pongo's memories and be able to read them. Speaking of which, is there anything that Emma can't do? Sword-fighting, parenting, magic, a convicted criminal whose now a town sheriff? Yep... I like Emma (mostly because of Jennifer Morrison), but I don't like the fact that she - and Snow - are quickly bordering into Mary Sue territory with their 'perfect' records. What happened to their flaws? Why are they successful at everything they touch? Oh yes, this is Once Upon a Time, and there's a reason why I get so annoyed with it so quickly. I also think I like Snow and Charming better apart, because they're so annoying when they are together. Or at least, the fairytale land parts are fine, but the 'real' world stuff is nauseating.

That being said, I'm glad Archie isn't dead as he's sweet enough. I hope he puts up some kind of a fight against Hook and Cora. I also want to see how Cora reacts to Regina now that she's lost 'everything' and how - and if - Hook is really going to be able to get his revenge on Rumpel. I doubt it, because I think Rumpel (along with Emma, Charming, Snow, Henry and to a lesser extent Ruby) are all 'protected' characters by the showrunners... so yes.
