Yeah, Apple did their big keynote today at WWDC in SF. They formally announced iOS 7. I drooled. And, noticing that it's implemented improvements to functions I was patching with jailbreak tools on 6.1.2, I decided to re-up my dev account and take the plunge.
The upgrade should have been extremely painless. But of course I forgot to use the UPGRADE button instead of RESTORE in iTunes. It cost a little extra time but wasn't anything especially horrible. In fact, I think I would have wound up doing it anyway because I had to get jailbreak off my phone before iOS 7 went on.
So far this evening with iOS has been mostly big free. The only app that truly seems unhappy is Podcasts -- irony alert, since it's an Apple app. I'm not a frequent listener, and I can still use iTunes on Mac as backup.
I'm pretty damned impressed with the UI changes. The launcher feels a bit cartoonish because the icons are noticeably bigger. I could do without all the swooshing and zooming animations. Hopefully they'll tone those down a bit. It's kind of funny switching between new and old views as I run third party apps, but that's to be expected since they are built on the current GA API's.
Can't say I'll be blogging all the gory details. But it's feeling fairly solid for now. And that's saying a lot given how much they've changed.
