I've never written a poem, in fact I've never been much interested in it. So when I offered the idea that I'd write a poem for my grandmother on Valentines day, I knew I was being dumb. But, I've written one and want to see what people think.
I myself, think it's a bit corny and could be better but I've always been one of my biggest critics. So without further ado...:
Rejoice, rejoice, I say; for today is the day of Valentine
A day of love, romance and sweets divine
A day where affection comes in a kiss of chocolate
For those, of course, most fortunate
For on the day when hearts are soaring
Others remind them they are not so boring
Others, not oneself, are given a power
One innate and hidden in the petals of a flower
One to show that they are to be desired
To acquaintances, to teachers and even those admired
To family, to friends and those who call you “mine”
Rejoice, rejoice, I say; for today is the day of Valentine
