Written at a difficult to determine time in a difficult to determine location.
I'm writing this post from about 35,000 feet in the air, sitting in Business class on my flight home from Frankfurt to Toronto.
After a long time spent sitting on the floor in the airport, Waneta and I decided to head to our gate. It was packed; I'm always surprised at how full flights are. I wonder what percentage of people are in the air at any given time? We had pretty much just checked in at the gate and sitting around dreading the eight hour trip home when Waneta's name was called over the PA. With a look, she went to the desk, where someone asked to see her - and my - boarding pass. He asked us what company we worked for, that we had the tickets we had. We said Volcano theatre company. Next thing we know, we've been Upgraded.
Damn, do I have leg room to spare. My own little screen. Power for the laptop - and 110, not 220. A full on menu, with smoked salmon, poached halibut, international cheeses, green tea creme brûlée... I shit you not. I'm not sure when the ordering of the food begins, but I'm looking forward to it already.
Supposedly, you're supposed to be able to get online up here. If I can figure out how to do that, you know I'm going to have to. Right now I've got the wireless fired up, but it's not detecting anything. There might be a setting somewhere...Damn, I can't find the network. Maybe it's not up yet, we're too early into the flight? Well, if I can get connected later, I will.
This is a very humane way to end a tour, tell you what.
For a couple of minutes I thought that the guy sitting just in front of me was Nathan Fillion, from Firefly. Same hair, same nose, same eyes. Then I got a better look, and it's not him. I guess that's good, now I don't have any reason to bother him, and potentially look like a crazed fan. I'm not a crazed fan, just to be clear.
later
I can't seem to get the damned connection. And I was SO looking forward to being online in the sky. I wanted to say "I'm online and almost in space!"
There was cured ham and spicy onions and horseradish and salad, followed by coconut chicken & basmati rice & vegetables, followed by cheese and grapes and coffee and truffled chocolates. Fwah. Later on I think there's going to be sushi. Sushi.
Looking out my window - we're flying over the ocean, and there's a thin contrail just off the left side of the plane. I can't tell what it is, but we're so high right now clouds look like mountains. Until they shift and you can see the waves underneath of them.
Now it's just a field of white fluffiness, with a little bit of air turbulence, you know, just for spice. Yeesh.
I was having problems with the plug for my laptop - it wasn't speaking well to the outlet in the seat - and the flight attendant, after a brief conversation with the classy german lady sitting beside me, brought me an adaptor, so now I have power. Which means I can watch movies, if I like. And not stupid airplane movies like "Sahara" and "Flubber" and "Monster in Law". Lufthansa makes great food, and they have big chairs, but their taste in movies stinks.
