That's the sound of a tattoo machine working on a very large, very beautiful chest piece in the other room. An exciting sound.
I'm sitting in Spacey's Bizarre Ink, a tattoo & piercing shop near the Grassmarket in Edinburgh, awaiting some work. This will be my second tattoo that I've had done in Edinburgh. The first was back in '02, a band of Irish gaelic around my right wrist. I'm neither Irish nor Gaelic, but the words were given to me ages ago in that language, so that's how they went on me.
Today I'm getting the caffeine molecule done on the inside of my right forearm, just down from the band. It's been on my list for a while, things I knew I wanted to get on me but not sure where or when. My friend & amazing inker The Reverend Matthew Ellis, who works at Way Cool North in Toronto, asked me to say hello to Spacey when I came here; he'd either met him on his honeymoon, or on some kind of guest artist exchange thing. I came in to the shop, met Spacey, got a good vibe off of him immediately, and figured what the hell. I can squeeze a tattoo in before work. It's a relatively simple design, shouldn't take that long. Straight lines and letters, pretty much. It's a good thing to spend my per diem on, you know? Makes up for all that not drinking I've been doing.

Edited at 22:16 Edinburgh Time: yeah, it took about three hours but damn it's worth it. The lines are so clean, and boy oh boy is it ever black. The aftercare is different than back home, but that's alright, it's all good. He's a good cat, this Spacey. We talked about his dogs and dog shows - one of his pooches was in the hospital today getting one of her rear legs amputated. He kept checking the phone everytime he got a text, but wasn't hearing anything. No news being good news, it was all fine & dandy. The tat took longer than perhaps it needed to, but there was lots of conversation, and coffee, and visitors. All good. Pictures to follow.
